He did meantion burnt boli/suya. When food is burned (even just the edge), the hydrocarbons (food is mostly carbs and hydrogen) become carcinogenic chemicals. The wood used to cook (there is wood safe to burn, and some that produce chemicals you should not injest), and the newspaper used to wrap add their own mix of toxins into the food. Taken over a lifetime, in regular doses, it's one of the many things that cause short life expectancy in Africans.

Of course we have examples of old men and women who burned wood and ate boli all their lives, but we also have a ton that died in their 30s, 40s, 50s for no apparent reason - and it's being argued that many early deaths are caused by the things we take for granted. (like boli and suya)

The dust,toxic pollutants and bacteria those food items are exposed to in those dusty road sides are enough to put some off them.

Anako, the article never mentioned that natural food causes cancer! What it stated was that the roasted boli that has burnt and suya that is burnt should be avoided. I don't buy all these guesses of our so called scientists about as regards what causes cancer. They refused or criminally sided with all producers of various preservatives not to acknowledge that the major causes of cancers are the chemicals paraded as preservatives and other pollutants disguised as sweetened agents are part of major causes of divergent arrays of cancers.
Thus Mr. Anako comprehension might be the culprit in your case or you deliberately chose to reverse the narative.
