Petroleum Minister, Mr. Rilwan Lukman has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.

Lukman’s resignation is coming on the heels of report of a possible cabinet change by Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

The reason for the resignation of the Petroleum Minister was not immediately known as at press time. But sources told Pointblanknews.com that Lukman’s decision may not be unconnected with his frosty relationship with the Acting President.

Vice President Jonathan had in December 2009 instructed Lukman, minister of state for petroleum resources; Odein Ajumogobia and others to cancel any travel plans for the holiday to enable them find a solution to the lingering fuel crisis rocking the entire country.

But Lukman ignored the directive from the then Vice President and left for Vienna on a British Airways flight from Abuja.

He is said to be one of those die-hard Yar’Adua loyalist who have vowed not to work under the Acting Presidency of Jonathan

What’s the difference between a Petroleum Minister and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources?

It seems there are two names associated with the same portfolio: Mr. Lukman and Mr. Ajumogobia

Divine change.I always know that it God who will rescue Nigeria because a greater percentage are cowards with  good hearts. He did it to Abacha;stopped OBJ from becoming our king and now He put Yar'Adua on sick leave. He has wrought resignation in the heart of men.

@honerico, very valid point. If you replace the old barsterd with a younger version who wants to own twice as many oil blocks, what does that translate to ?

@ Imeobong: Nice list. These guys should be forwarded to EFCC afterwards for proper 'radioactive scanning'; they shouldn't be let out to the larger society with anything 'positive'! Could become very contagious. lol

Agreed b. Is there any court at the NDE (National directorate of Employment or can the
Indusrtrial Court dish out a few Years?-------------

Some guys like Lukman should be jailed for stealing jobs from younger Nigerians.
There are many of them oh
Re: Breaking News! Rilwan Lukman, Petroleum Minister Resigns by Nobody: 12:29pm On Feb 16, 2010
This story is not complete. Actually he tendered his resignation letter but it was turned down by Jonathan on the grounds that his resignation might send signals that something was wrong with the cabinet.
