Injured victims of a female suicide bomber lie on the floor awaiting medical attention as beds were no longer available at a Maiduguri hospital in northeastern Nigeria.

Three women suicide bombers yesterday blew themselves up at the entrance to a camp for displaced people in northeast Nigeria, killing 28 people and wounding 82, local sources said.

Our hospitals have no beds because

1.Bad funding...and it isn't just because of corruption (Although looting does happen. I know of one ex CMD who was alleged to have looted his hospital funds to fund his private hospital...alleged mind!).

In Nigeria...we pay cheap hospital fees. Eg: Caesarean section in Nigeria : N500000. CS in the US of A : $150000.

That means no money to fund hospitals adequately.

Mass. General, Boston : $750million for research.


I guess we can blast the govt for not doing more....but let's be frank....we want high class...we have to pay for it. Via taxes or raised hospital fees.

Me, I think he should have come home for treatment ....

But...the reason why British hospitals are soo attractive...and mind you it itsnt Bubu going out...many ordinary Nigerians too are running to abroad for treatment.


1.The UK charges its citizens high taxes. For example...one of the taxes you pay in the UK is council tax...which costs 120 pounds sterling.(N56,000). Now...if Borno state started charging its people that kind of tax....there will be riots on the streets. (And that is just one of some taxes UK citizens pay).

That means that govt there can raise money to build and improve hospitals.

2.The base of the UK's economy is MANUFACTURING. Which means that they can make trillions of naira from selling finished manufacturing goods...which means the govt has enough cash in taxes to improve hospitals, etc.

3.Cost of a CS in the UK: 2369 POUNDS. Cost of a CS in Nigeria...200 pounds.

4.Then the UK deals with corruption well well....largely because corruption will harm its ability to be competitive in the world economy.

Healthcare is expensive.
