THE CRUDE OIL AND THE UNITY OF NIGER-DELTA PEOPLE

The Crude oil , which is a natural resource from the Niger-Delta region is a Blessing from God Almighty to the Niger-Delta people and has been a major source of revenue service to the entire Nation for over fourty years.

On the other hand, this same crude oil has been the major cause of division among and conflict among the Niger-Delta People. Many large ethnic groups in the region are being broken into small pieces because of divided interest and selfish desires of some persons or group of people.
Rather than uniting us, the crude oil as aided our division and disunity thereby leading to the serious level of under-development in the region. Many Niger-Delta Environmental/ Youths activists has advocated for total resource control as the unending unrest in the region, but this resources control (if granted) will only lead to more problems if we don't imbibe the culture of Unity and togetherness; fighting for a collective interest and putting the collective needs of our Region first before our individual needs.

Parastatals and organizations such as the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Host Communities Producing Oil & Gas (Hostcom) and the various states Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OPADEC) etc    are there to teleport our needs to the appropriate authorities. Let us therefore join our hands together and build a Positive Niger-Delta when peace and sustainable development can thrive.

God bless us all
