hpymoment: Learn a programming language or scripting language. none is easy, but thank me later. For easy ones, blogging is no 1 then hardware maintenance. Your choice is limited till you have the basics. 2 Likes |

I dont have any educational background in ICT, but I have learnt HTML, CSS, and still learning JavaScript. I believe the three languages above are what majorly constitute web design. While learning, I came across new terms such as UI/UX design and front end design. I would like the gurus in the house to briefly school me on those terms in a layman language. Secondly, apart from the three languages I mentioned above, what other languages do I need to learn to become a UI/UX or frontend designer? Cc: tessygirl yinkeys attention007 simiolu1 |

phetty:You can ask the others, I'm not so deep into this stuff. Hope you know the differences between a website designer & a developer? |
Re: 5 Reason You Should Learn ICT Skills While Doing Other Jobs by phetty(m): 8:29am On Sep 23, 2017 |
yinkeys: A web designer focuses on the look and interactivity of a web page (client-side). A web developer focuses on the functionality of a web page (server-side). I don't know if my definitions above are sufficient. |

phetty: Immediately you start writing markup (HTML), you have begun some form of programming. So technically, it is no longer design but development. A lot of people think the terms are synonymous but they aren't. And understanding the difference between them would save you from confusion later on. Design does not involve any form of coding; that is why design tools include Photoshop, Balsamiq, Gravit, Sketch etc while development tools include text editors (notepad, notepad++, VS Code, Atom, Sublime etc) plus other software depending on your use case. There is nothing like front-end design; only front-end development. What training schools and people tag as front-end design is actually User Experience/User Interface (UX/UI) design. UX/UI design is the process of transforming a digital product from an idea to a concept or enhancing user satisfaction, usability and accessibility of a digital product. The reason I said concept for the first part of my definition is that design processes do not directly produce the digital product. It's like the way architects draw building plans. The building plan is not the final outcome; it still has to be built with brick and mortar. But it is a concept that if followed, would result in a building that people can live in. So for digital products, the UX/UI design process produces wireframes, mockups, high fidelity pictures of how the digital product would look like. It also produces personas, user stories etc. Read the links below to understand more https://medium.com/usable/rethinking-hotels-ng-886f6e25f1bf https://medium.com/startup-grind/i-got-rejected-by-apple-music-so-i-redesigned-it-b7e2e4dc64bf To answer your last question. Technically, you don't need to learn any programming language to be a UX/UI designer. What you need to learn about instead are colours, composition, sketching, user experience research, design guidelines and patterns, and then design tools like the ones I listed above. But this is where I need to say this caveat: a lot of UX/UI designers write HTML, CSS and Javascript. This is not to say you must learn how to code when you are a designer. But writing HTML, CSS and JS when you are a bad ass designer would get you hired before someone who is only a designer. It is simply a case of killing two birds with the same stone. In the thread below, a guy comes up with the design, then other guys jump on it. https://radar.techcabal.com/t/ui-with-figma-design-delivered-daily/13299 But the road to becoming an experienced front-end developer is still long. You have a lot of ground ahead of you. See attached pictures and the youtube link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBzRwzY7G-k&t=681s 1 Like

dharmzie18: As for the basic course you need to start with, it depends on your interests and abilities. So I can't really choose for you. But some of the basic courses are; CompTIA A+ (Hardware Engineering) CompTIA N+ (Networking +) CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) IC3 (International core computing) Digital Marketing (All about how to build a successful business online) The digital marketing is holding @ 77 Ojuelegba str, at Surulere It is quite cheap.
