Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has again stated that Nigerians must move on together as breakup was not an option.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Media Aide, Paul Mumeh, the former Senate’s President insisted that “the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable”.
Senator Mark, stated these when he led members of the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) 3rd Regular Course Alumni Association on a courtesy visit to the Kaduna State Acting governor, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, in Kaduna today to mark the Golden Jubilee ( 50 years) of their entry into the NDA.

“Those who are agitating for otherwise are missing the point. Nigeria has crossed many crucibles .
“We cannot reverse ourselves. The only option is to move on in a manner that is progressive, peaceful and united.
“We may have our disagreements. But a break up is not an option. We can resolve our differences through meaningful dialogue and genuine conversation.

“There is no use heating up the polity,” he said.
He noted that no matter the imperfections, the nation is greater and better as an indivisible country.
He recalled that he and his course mates were admitted into the NDA in September 1967 saying that they were admitted with a mission to “protect and defend the territorial integrity of our nation .
“We were bonded together by patriotism to keep Nigeria one.
“It is a sweet memory and a reunion to gather in Kaduna once again,” he explained.

He stated that the Alumni Association is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission( CAC) as non- political, non- Profit and a Non-Governmental association.

Responding, the Acting Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Shagali thanked members of the alumni association for believing in the indivisibility of Nigeria.
Shagali said Kaduna state on its part would continue to work for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
He recalled that even the fear of reprisal attacks when there were some disturbances in some parts of Nigeria were unfounded in Kaduna because the government was proactive.

NK's problem was his delay in transition to Restructuring, given that he had no concrete plans to actualise Biafra.

That delay could also cause progressive and patriotic Nigerians the restructuring agenda...

Quite unfortunate.

most people agree that Nigerians need to move on together but I guess the dispute is the terms and condition of that unity

Move on with the current structure? Why are they hiding from discussions on the terms of the unity? They know people are scared of losing their way of life but they dont care!

That summarises the problem of Nigeria at this point. Christians/Southerners are apprehensive about being forced to mix with people that are different from them. That is he crux of the matter! Why can't we come up with a way to enable each ethnic nationality actualised their potentials in peace? Is mixture with people of other faiths by force? cry

If Scotland could seek and get referendum on independence after 300 years of being part of the UK, nobody should bore me to sleep with this "the unity of Nigeria is non negotiable" nonsense.

David Mark should have a special place in hell. After chairing the "Abandoned Properties Committee" at the end of the civil war and declaring the properties of the so called 'not vanquished' abandoned just because many fled for their lives during the war, he still has the guts to call for 'unity and peace' without 'justice'.
