Mikel To Land In Nigeria On Sunday For Zambia Showdown
By Bamidele Boluwaji

Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has informed the national team’s technical crew led by coach Gernot Rohr that he will arrive in Nigeria on Sunday ahead of the October 7 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Chipolopolo of Zambia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Media Officer of the team, Toyin Ibitoye, who confirmed this to Completesportsnigeria.com said the Tianjin TEDA midfielder has been in touch with Rohr and is ready for the crucial encounter.

Nigeria will host the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on October 7 and the former Chelsea star is expected to play a huge role in the match.

“Preparation is in top gear from the technical crew and the responses from the players for the match have been positive,” Ibitoye told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“Many of the players have been showing their readiness for the match and I can also tell you that Mikel will be in Nigeria on Sunday, so we are focused ahead of the match.

“Mikel is showing a high level of commitment to the match with the way he talks about it and when you start hearing such from the captain, you will understand that nothing short of victory is his target.”

Nigeria will go into the match with a target of winning to seal their World Cup ticket. The Super Eagles top the Group B table with 10 points from the four matches played so far.

By Johnny Edward

Fortuna Sittard, coached by former Nigeria captain and coach Sunday Oliseh, recorded their fifth league win of the Dutch second division season on Friday, spanking Telstar 6-0 to maintain second spot in the table, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

All six goals were scored in the last 30 minutes of the encounter.

Substitute Andre Vidigal scored a hat-trick while Perr Schuurs, Wessel Dammers and Finn Stokkers were also on target for the Limburg side who recorded their first away win of the season in the Eerste Divisie.

Perr Schuurs opened scoring on the hour mark before Vidigal doubled the lead seven minutes later. Dammers made it 3-0 two minutes later.

The win moved Fortuna Sittard up to second place with 16 points from seven games, one point adrift of leaders Jong Ajax who beat FC Oss 3-0 away from home.

Fortuna Sittard will face NEC at home in their next game on the 6th of October.

Hodgson Set To Start Ladapo For Palace Vs Man United

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has hinted that Nigerian-born Freddie Ladapo is in line to make his first start for Crystal Palace against Manchester United in an English Premier League at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ladapo has been named in the substitutes bench for Crystal Palace once this term and could he handed his first start in the absence of injured Christian Benteke.

Benteke has been ruled out for at least six weeks with a knee injury. The 26-year-old Belgium international was injured during Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Manchester City.

Hodgson also confirmed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek and James Tomkins will both be missing for this weekend’s game against Manchester United.

“Freddie Ladapo has been training with the group whilst I have been here. He is in the frame for a place in our situation,” Hobson said on Friday during his pre-match press conference

“Manchester United have a very strong squad but we will be looking to give them a good game and hope for any good luck that is around.

“There could be more pain ahead but we wont be fazed as we work on our task that we have ahead of us as a group.”

“He [Benteke] has ligament damage which will keep him out for a minimum of six weeks,” said manager Roy Hodgson.”

Hodgson also revealed that winger Wilfried Zaha is not ready to return to face Manchester United on Saturday following a knee injury.

Why Gernot Rohr must consider Nigeria's Sone Aluko
By Ed Dove, KweséESPN

Competition among Nigeria's offensive talents is intense as we fast approach the 2018 World Cup, with the Super Eagles in the driving seat to claim one of Africa's five spots in Russia.

Gernot Rohr's New Era at the helm of the continental giants has seen the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon and Alex Iwobi flourish, while Ahmed Musa remains a tantalising option despite his domestic struggles.

Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses reaffirmed their importance with sterling showings in the double-header against Cameroon, and the likes of Anthony Nwakaeme, Henry Onyekuru, Aaron Samuel, Olarenwaju Kayode, Isaac Success and Victor Osimhen are among the tantalising options on the fringes of the squad.
Perhaps even Swansea City's Tammy Abraham will be a Super Eagle in time for next summer.

However, despite their myriad qualities, do any of the aforementioned names offer the guile in advanced areas that Sone Aluko can?

The Reading forward, whose team host Norwich City live on Kwesé Sports 1 on Saturday at 18:30 CAT, has endured a frustrating international career.

He's been largely discarded since the dismal 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, even though he was one of the Eagles' star men under Stephen Keshi and twice found the net in an ultimately decisive draw with South Africa.

Following that failure, he ought to have been one of the building blocks for the new Nigeria, rather than a sub-par element discarded with some of the other underachievers.
He may have struggled in the Premier League, where he appeared at times to be overwhelmed by the division's intensity, but he's consistently proven his quality in the Championship, with Fulham in recent seasons, and latterly with Reading.

Indeed, while Musa netted just twice last season - his miserable maiden campaign in England - Aluko was busy inspiring Fulham to an unexpected promotion charge. He scored eight and contributed 10 assists during 47 outings,
before the Cottagers were defeated in the playoffs.

That form attracted the interest of Reading, Fulham's vanquishers in the playoff semi finals before they were themselves bested by Huddersfield Town in the final.

Aluko was attracted by Jaap Stam's ambition to take the Royals back into the Premier League, and while they've started the campaign sluggishly - winning just two of their nine fixtures to date - the Nigeria forward has begun to demonstrate why his arrival should prompt an upturn in fortunes.
The 28-year-old has contributed two assists in his last two fixtures - and has begun to show the trickery, the technique and the flair that set him apart from many of the division's other attackers.

Aluko is never going to be a prolific frontman, but as he demonstrated with Fulham last season - playing alongside Floyd Ayite, Neeskens Kebano and Chris Martin - he knows how to get the best out of those around him.

His ability to beat a man and stretch the play should, in time, create more space and opportunity for Reading's forwards, while Aluko can also thrive in a wide role or through the middle.

The former Glasgow Rangers man is also hard working and weighs in defensively, which would allow some of the Eagles' other attacking talents more breadth to express themselves.
This kind of discipline and tactical nous could also be vital against some of the tougher opponents Nigeria will face should they make it to Russia.

This versatility should certainly appeal to Rohr - particularly in a tournament environment - but it's Aluko's intelligence and his ability to act as a foil for those around him which make him worthy of ardent consideration from the German coach.

It's particularly tantalising to imagine how Aluko would work in tandem with Iheanacho, as he's often done some of his best work as a withdrawn striker playing behind a more conventional leading man.

Assuming that John Obi Mikel takes the central creative control for the Eagles though - as he did in both games against Cameroon - Aluko could revert to the wide role he played as part of Fulham's front three last season.

He's a player who offers assists, versatility and work rate, and if he can recreate last season's output at Reading, deserves consideration in Rohr's masterplan.

NIGERIA VS ZAMBIA: Five Interesting Facts About Super Eagles Vs Chipolopolo Encounters

Ahead of next weekend’s crucial FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles of the Nigeria and Chipolopolo of Zambia, Completesportsnigeria.com’s JAMES AGBEREBI digs up some interesting facts concerning the two countries…

–SUPER EAGLES ARE UNBEATEN IN THEIR LAST SEVEN GAMES AGAINST ZAMBIA

The Super Eagles remain unbeaten in seven straight games against the Chipolopolo of Zambia.

The last time the Eagles lost to Zambia was a 2-0 defeat in an international friendly game in Lusaka in 1997. Since then the Eagles have recorded four wins and three draws.

After the loss in 1997, the Eagles met Zambia again just two days later in Kitwe in Zambia and held them to a 0-0 draw.
In the first leg of the qualifiers for the 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Lagos in 2001, the Eagles won 1-0 thanks to Victor Agali’s goal.

The reverse fixture in Chingola ended 1-1 with Benedict Akwuegbu scoring Nigeria’s goal before an own goal by Isaac Okoronkwo drew Zambia level.

The 2010 AFCON in Angola saw the Super Eagles and Chipolopolo clash in the quarter-finals with the Eagles triumphing 5-4 on penalties after 120 minutes ended 0-0.
Both countries met in an international friendly game in Kaduna in 2011 which ended 2-0 in favour of the Eagles with the Uche brothers, Ikechukwu and Kalu, getting the goals.
In the 2013 AFCON hosted by South Africa the Eagles and Zambia were drawn in the same group. They played a 1-1 draw. Emmanuel Emenike gave the Eagles the lead before Kennedy Mweene equalised from the penalty spot.
And in their last meeting in the first leg of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola in 2016, Nigeria beat Zambia 2-1.

–NIGERIA HAVE NEVER LOST AT HOME TO ZAMBIA

In four previous home games against Zambia in Nigeria, the Eagles are yet to taste defeat, securing three wins and one draw.
The first time the Eagles hosted Zambia in Nigeria was in the second leg of the qualifiers for the 1974 AFCON in Egypt which the Eagles won 3-2 (Zambia won the first leg 5-1 and went on to qualify for the 1974 AFCON).
Zambia’s next visit to Nigeria was in 1985 for the Egypt 1986 AFCON qualifiers which ended 0-0 in Lagos.

Both Nigeria and Zambia were drawn in the same group for the 2002 AFCON qualifiers. Also in the group were Namibia and Madagascar.

On matchday one, the Super Eagles played host to Chipolopolo
and won 1-0 courtesy of Victor Agali’s lone strike.
And the last time both teams met in Nigeria was in a 2011 international friendly game in Kaduna which the Eagles won 2-0.

–NIGERIA HAVE NEVER HOSTED ZAMBIA IN A WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

The second leg FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier will be the first time Nigeria will host Zambia in a FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Their previous meetings in Nigeria were in the 1974, 1986 and 2002 AFCON qualifiers.

–NIGERIA HAVE NEVER KNOCKED ZAMBIA OUT OF A QUALIFIER

Nigeria have met Zambia in senior qualifiers on three occasions but are yet to eliminate the Southern Africans.

In their first ever qualifying tie, Zambia knocked Nigeria out 7-4 on aggregate during qualification for the 1974 AFCON.

Zambia repeated the feat again against Nigeria when they ousted the Eagles from the race to the 1986 AFCON 1-0 on aggregate (first leg in Nigeria ended 0-0, second leg in Lusaka Zambia won 1-0).

The last time both teams faced each other was in the group stage of the 2002 AFCON qualifiers.

At the end of the qualifiers, both the Eagles and Zambia secured the two available tickets for the 2002 AFCON while Namibia and Madagascar crashed out.

–ZAMBIA HAVE THE WIDEST MARGIN WIN IN ENCOUNTERS BETWEEN BOTH COUNTRIES
Zambia have inflicted the heaviest defeat on Nigeria since both countries have been squaring off against each other.
The defeat was a 5-1 win in Lusaka by Zambia in the 1974 AFCON qualifiers.

On their part, the Eagles’ biggest scoreline win against Zambia was 2-0 which was on two occasions, in the semi-final of the 1990 AFCON and the 2011 international friendly game.

1) Born in Romford in East London, his full names are Olayinka Fredrick Oladotun Ladapo.

2) Ladapo is eligible to represent the national teams of Nigeria and England but has pledged allegiance to the Super eagles, having trained with the Nigeria U20s at their get-together in Bisham Abbey before the 2011 Fifa U20 World Cup.

3) He was playing in the sixth-tier of English football for Margate before he was acquired by Crystal Palace in March 2016 following a successful trial, in which he scored a hat-trick against Watford U23s.

4) Ladapo has yet to make his Crystal Palace bow in the Premier League, but has been included in their match day squads against Huddersfield, West Brom and Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club.

5) He is topping the goalscoring charts for Crystal Palace U23s with four goals, having found the net against Bristol City, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest this season.

Exclusive – FC Lugano Receives Stanley Amuzie’s ITC, Could Make Debut Against FC Zurich

Nigeria Rio 2016 star Stanley Amuzie has received the all clear to make his debut for his loan side FC Lugano after his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) came through few days ago.

Amuzie joined the team from Italian Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer on a season long loan deal after failing to break into the first team of the Serie A side.
Since joining the team on loan in the summer, his debut has been held up by issues surrounding his ITC, but the papers came
through yesterday, making him eligible to represent the team.

Owngoalnigeria.com exclusively gathered that he is in the matchday squad for their weekend league game against FC Zurich, and he could make his debut in the game.

He joined Sampdoria after excelling with the Nigeria U23 team, where his fine performances earned him two senior national team caps for Nigeria. Both coming in the back to back ill fated AFCON 2017 Qualifiers.

Known for his pace down the flank and abilities to whip in crosses, he was ever present for the Nigeria team at the Rio 2016 Olympics where they won bronze.

Last season he was restricted to games for the Primavera side although he made the first team squad for some league matches, but he didn’t get to play.

Aminu Umar Scores, Omeruo Disappoints In Kasimpasa Loss To Osmanlispor

Forgotten Super Eagles forward Aminu Umar scored one of the goals that helped his Turkish side Osmanlispor thrash Kasimpasa 3-0 in a league game in Turkey.

Umar scored the third goal for Osmanlispor in the 59th minute in a game where his Nigerian compatriot at the club Raheem Lawal was on for 83 minutes before Tugay Kacar replaced him.

Out of favour Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo was on from start to finish for Kasimpasa, but failed to bring organisation to the backline of his team as they conceded thrice.

The game was the second for Omeruo since joining the club on loan from Chelsea, meanwhile the other Nigerian at the club Emem Eduok was subbed on in the 46th minutes as Kasimpasa tried to rescue something from the tie.

Preko Backs Ezenwa, Not Akpeyi, To Keep For Nigeria Against Zambia
By Izuchukwu Okosi

FC IfeanyiUbah head coach Yaw Preko has backed his goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa to be in goal when the Super Eagles battle Zambia in the crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on October 7, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Ezenwa was on duty when Nigeria claimed four points at the expense of African champions Cameroon in September on matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers with illness and injury stopping the duo of Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi.

Akpeyi has been recalled for the match against Chipolopolo but Ikeme is still going through rehabilitation for leukamia.

“Ezenwa is improving every day and he kept very well against Cameroon,” former Black Stars of Ghana player Preko told Completesportsnigeria.com on Saturday.

“He was very impressive at the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Cup in Ghana so I don’t see why he shouldn’t continue getting the chance to play.

“At the moment Ezenwa is in form, forget the fact that he conceded four goals against Ghana in the WAFU Cup final, he was exceptional; the whole team was poor, only Nigeria’s goal was the bright spot on that day. At least he was the best goalkeeper of the tournament.”

Also named in the squad to face Zambia is Plateau United’s Dele Ajiboye.

Onazi: Super Eagles Have Enough Quality To Beat Chipolopolo
By Johnny Edward

Trabzonspor midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is confident the Super Eagles of Nigeria will defeat Zambia in next Saturday’s World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Completesportnigeria.com reports.

Nigeria need a win to clinch the sole ticket for the Russia 2018 World Cup in African qualifying Group B with a game to spare.

Onazi, who has one goal in seven appearances for his Turkish club, is banking on the renewed team spirit formed after the Eagles excelled against Cameroon over two matches in early September, winning at home and drawing away.

He is however wary of the Zambian side who beat Algeria over two legs also in early September.

“We have all to play for against Zambia and I believe that we have the quality to win,” Onazi told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“We know what we need to do and for 90 minutes on the pitch we must be focused to get it done.

“It’s a dream playing at the World Cup again and I want to live it by helping the team qualify.”

Onazi has played every minute of the Super Eagles’ 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Nigeria lead Group B with ten points ahead of Zambia who are back in contention for the sole World Cup ticket in second place with seven points.

Cameroon and Algeria have been eliminated from the race.

But for the Long run...... I am only thinking of Moses' place in Chelsea's first XI against the biggest guns of Europe.

He was trusted against Atletico Madrid... so why not Against Man City? hmmmm... well.. more on this later.

one thing i rate Azpi more is in his crosses

probably what Conte wants to play today is to use more of the wings in bringing in crosses since Morata prefers using his head to score than his legs

I may be wrong though

but its still a plus to us though in that there might not be any knock to either keep him out or reduce his influence in the October 7 decider

Ola Aina (Hull City): Played all 90mins and mehn!! what a very decent performance. He is making a strong case to become a starter for the Super Eagles in either fullback roles.

He made four solid tackles, won three aerial duels, completed three dribbles.... made 85 touches on the ball, made 50 passes and had a successful long ball pass.. and achieved a passing accuracy of 70%.

Attained an overall Who scored Match rating of 7.78 and got a fine assist as Hull City thrashed Birmingham City 6-1.
