Ohaneze President-General gave a speech today at chatham house, UK, in which he called for restructuring, spoke on the illegality of IPOB proscription and called the declaration of Arewa youths treasonable. Below are excerpts of his speech and the video.

[b]"In the recent past, self determinstion groups have sprung up in Nigeria. The self determination groups include IPOB, MASSOB,YOLICOM, Arewa Youths, Niger Delta Republic and Republic Of the Middle Belt. Of all these groups, IPOB and Boko Haram have been designated as terrorist organisations by the federal government.

This development in relation to IPOB is unfortunate.

Boko Haram is an armed organisation which has attacked and occupied Nigerian territory, hoisting its flag and appointing local government authority governments. It has abducted and abused Nigerian women, kidnapped and imprisoned many and killed over 200,000 people. It is still involved in guerilla warfare against Nigeria, yet the federal government is negotiating with them.

No member of Boko Haram captured by the military is under trial in Nigeria. Members of this federal government are on record for condemning previous federal government for brutal murder of Boko Haram members and condemning the retired chief of Army staff for zealous prosecution of the anti-terror war.

Members of the sect who confessed to a change of mind have been recieved along with their abducted female partners in the presidency and rehabilitated.

The declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organisation is in my view, hurried, unfair and not in conformity with the internment of the law.

Whereas I'm not in agreement with some of the methods of IPOB like its inappropriate and divisive broadcasts, the uncontested evidence given by the attorney general of the federation in an interlocutory action claiming that IPOB attempted or actually snatched guns from law enforcement agents are, if proven, merely criminal offences. The do not constitute enough evidence to meet international law definition of a terrorist organisation.

The United States Embassy in Nigeria only three days ago shared this conclusion of mine and asserted that the United States government does not recignise IPOB as a terrorist organisation

This same unarmed IPOB that is being stigmatised by the Nigerian government had its members murdered in Asaba, Mkpor, Aba and Portharcourt simply for having public demonstrations, without the federal government ordering a judicial enquiry. Instead, after I called for one, and Amnesty international provided evidence that 150 of them were killed, the chief of Army staff set up an enquirey composed of of serving and retired Army officers, thus abandoning the rules of natural justice which prescribes that you cannot be a judge in your own court.

Igbos in Nigeria feel the treatment of IPOB as unfair, discriminatory and overhanded. They see the move as an attempt to encourage the profiling of Igbos in the international security arena

We know of other self determination groups in Nigeria that are armed and have destroyed government and private sector installations that government preferes to negotiate with rather than labell them as terrorist organisations.

Fulani Herdsmen, otherwise called Fulani militants, have ravaged farms in the middle belt, south south and south east of Nigeria killing several farmers in the process.

In January 2016, they killed 500 farmers and their families in Agatu in Benue state. In Enugu state, they murdered morthan 100 farmers in Ukpabi Nimbo in April 2016. Photographs depicting then with automatic rifles trend the entire world media. Yet not one of them is facing criminal charges, nor is opration Python dance being conducted in the area they ravage and kill. And the federal government describes them as criminals and not a terrorist organisation notwithstanding their classification by the global terrorist index as the fourth deadliest terrorist group in the world"

Like I said, Biafra is a developing story. I respect the guts and intellect of Chief Nnia Nwodo. IPOB and it's "proscription" by the fulani helmsman, is an intellectual argument they will never win. The debate is now on the international podium.

For Buhari and his co-travellers, what a weak position to argue from before the learned world.

That said, Ndigbo need an active and articulate Ohaneze President in this critical time, and there is one in Chief Nwodo. It is only the ignorant ones that do not realize that Ndigbo as a whole have been labelled "terrorists" by Buhari and his Fulani army.

Ndigbo need active Ohaneze President in this criticawodo.

Nwodo's intellect is far above present crops of self acclaimed igbo leaders most especially those disgraceful cowardly SE governors.

Igbos needs to get their acts together instead of discordant tunes that leads nowhere.
