In south africa it is illegal to purchase a TV without a licence from the govt.

I see nothing wrong with that. In the UK, the same rule applies.

In fact, a lot of the BBC's funding comes from licence fees paid by TV owners. Without those fees, BBC would be broke in weeks.

Nigeria should bring in a TV licence fee. Maybe a good source of income for nta.

Other countries with TV licence fees listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licence

NTA needs improvement, and the only way forward is by finding alternative sources of funding.

Or we just sell our public broadcaster to the South Africans.

Please there's nothing weird about your number 9. In many developed countries and even in Nigeria it's illegal to own a TV without a license. In Nigeria issuance of TV licenses is the exclusive preserve of Local Governments or Area Councils as is the case in Abuja though the law is certainly not complied with.

And in case you didn't know, you also require a license from the Local Government to own a dog in Nigeria.

1. Check the list I linked to now.

2. Many South Africans are just as poor as Nigerians, yet SA has TV licence fees.

3. If you want govt to pay for everything, expect them to keep on taking loans....that your grandkids will still be paying back.

4. Even in the UK, there are people that dodge paying licence fees.

#10 is a lie. I am a Nigerian but work in Chad republic. The mangara field (oil field) I have plenty of pictures I snapped in chad even at the Hassan Djamous international airport without any harassment.

There is already TV/Radio license. local govts are empowered to collect it. Problem is they only pursue companies for it instead of ensuring everybody pays
