souldust: someone should answer those questions i asked on page 432. I am expecting answers from @andrewza and @henry.

Lets not mind the trolls on this forum. We should go on with the topic. They will sooner or later join us or leave if they cant change. Law of evolution readily comes to mind here.

Then why say "someone answer"? Address them directly. Are you demented? You can see they aren't here. So, what are you doing screaming about it?

all4naija: The truth is that your military power is dwindling. It will no longer be able to protect your nation soveriegnty with time to come. There will be need for Angola invading your cities in the near future and take over your huge natural resources. grin grin grin

Well, fine. I am happy to go now. Have done my bit.

Happy arguing. We all know I don't care about your military arguments.

souldust: pls eplain all these to me in lay man's english. Platoon, batallion, brigade as well as brigadier general if it has to do with the word brigade:

who leads a batallion? What is the name of that thing they call red neck and what is the significance?

Does your army in SA have the same red neck? What does it mean to you guys?

Platoon, I think a platoon is about 12-44 soldiers. Led by a lieutenant.

A battallion is about 970-1100 troops

A brigade is a full military structure. 5,000 troops, Commanded by colonel. Eg airborne brigade, amphibious forces brigade, special forces brigade, mechanised or armoured brigade.

Division= headed by a GOC ( general officer commander) is in charge of all the brigades in his sector. For example, HQ 1 division in kaduna, 82 division in enugu is the headquarters of all the brigades in the south south and south east.

A battalion is always led by a person in the rank of a general and above.

Just make sure that you anchor it tightly because the whole class of students could end up in Cape Town. By the way I still doubt safety of those so called schools.

No.

A battlion is a unit. A ship is a unit. Both are led by a seniro officer(for the most part). Diffrenc is that a ship can have a crew of a 100 and be run by a captian and a battlion of 1000 can be run by colonel

Is a battlion not run by a colonel in nigeria?

And to add a company is 100 to 150 in size and run by a captain.
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 6:31am On Jul 01, 2013
Platoon, 25-50 soldiers commanded by lieutenant

Company, 80-200 soldiers commanded by captain/major

Battalion 600-1200 soldiers commanded by lieutenant colonel/colonel (vital in coup plotting ops, battalion commander)

Brigade 3,000-5000 soldiers commanded by brigadier general

Division 10,000-15,000 soldiers commanded by major general

Corps 20,000-50,000 soldiers commanded by lieutenant general

field army 80,000-200,000 soldiers commanded by general

army group 400,000-1,000,000 commanded by field marshal

it differs for navy and air force, because a navy captain is to command a warship and crew size on board ships varie, can be 50 can be 200 seamen.

air force officer like squadron leader may command 6 to 12 jet fighters of 6 to 24 pilots.

compare equivalent army, navy, air force ranks on http://www.nigerianprofessional.com/militaryranks.html

souldust: i heard some students argueing about who can and cannot be an ADC to the president. All of the boys said the president's ADC must be a coloniel but one said a coloniel cant be an ADC. OBJ's ADC was a coloniel (oh, that handsome man, he is late!) same as yar'adua. But GEJ's ADC is a major. So whats the real thing? Is it right for a coloniel to be an ADC or not?

According to the boy who said coloniels cant be ADC, OBJ is a mad man!; that he could have even taken a general to be his ADC. So i dont know whats right here may be you guys can enlighten me.

Also i want SAns to tell us how all i have said and asked apply to SA. Does your president have an army ADC? Can a coloniel be his ADC (if that rank is in your army)?

What is a ADC?
Yes we have the same ranks
Coloniel is one under becoming a genrial. The guy could be due for promostion.

The value for Rural population in Nigeria was 81,860,550 as of 2011. As the graph below shows, over the past 51 years this indicator reached a maximum value of 81,860,550 in 2011 and a minimum value of 38,504,110 in 1960.

Definition: Rural population refers to people living in rural areas as defined by national statistical offices. It is calculated as the difference between total population and urban population. Aggregation of urban and rural population may not add up to total population because of different country coverages.

Source: The data on urban population shares used to estimate rural population come from the United Nations, World Urbanization Prospects. Total population figures are World Bank estimates.

Ok I under stand. And I don't know if zuma has one from the milltary. And if he did any officer would do(though a senori officer is a better opstion). Ii not like the guy is euning the milltary. My first boss was once the aid of the minster of defense (1980s) and he was a chief petty oiffercer then.

Last sa field marshal was during ww2. The orgonistional structer of the sa milltary post ww2 did not have a need for one.

O and it is sea marshal and air marshal. And no only ever had field marshals.

Typcaly a milltary the size of nigeria will only have one full genrail or admarial. He is the chief of defense. Over all in charge of all branches. Typical it is army genrail since they the supperor servis. Though sa did have a full admrail once has chief of defense.

Nigerian military is gradually coming of age. In ten years time with good military equipment procurement and training we might just be on the world map among the strongest military.

Go Nigerian military, the best in Africa.

according to the info @agaugust pasted, a field marshal commands between 400,000- 1 million troops. This is just one of the criteria's. I believe an extraordinary military achievement by a general in war time. We do not meet any of the criteria's.

To be honest, for the second question, I have no idea.
