Anambra: Five Obvious Things That Should Top Gov. Willie Obiano's Agenda For His by okstone: 4:55pm On Nov 20, 2017
[img][/img]The race for the office of the Governor of Anambra state was indeed a fierce one. Many things came into play in the course of the election, starting from the popularity to proscription of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who preached election boycott in quest for a Referendum for a sovereign Biafra state to a fierce contest between the sitting governor Dr Willie Obiano and major opposition candidates which include Dr Tony Nwoye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oseloka Henry Obaze of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osita Chidoka of the United Progressives Party(UPP) and few others. As expected and predicted by most political analysts, it was the sitting governor Dr. Willie Maduabulochukwu Obiano (the alert governor) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) that carried the day at the polls.

After the hassles of the election now comes governance, the time for Anambra people to reap the fruit of their votes. Dr. Willie Obiano's government has been lauded for it's strides in Security and Infrastructural development in the state during it's first dispensation so much so that Dr. Obiano was once awarded Governor of the year for the whole Nigeria. But after moving around Anambra state and interacting with Anambrarians, majority of the people believe that their government should put more effort in the following areas as listed below:

1. Transforming the state's Economy from Labour based to Knowledge based.

Anambra people are arguably one of the most determined people in the world same as other Igbo people which is very good for a people who had been through a lot. But there is the need to tap into this determination and transform it into wealth for majority of the people, this can be done by transforming greater part of the state's economy to a knowledge based economy through building of things like ICT hub across the major cities, libraries in each local government, modernization of existing Libraries like Onitsha Library, Science and Technology study centers across all local governments of the state and improvement of facilities in secondary schools.

2. Dualization of major roads in the state.

Currently majority of the road in the state are single carriage roads, though most of this roads are in good state but being single carriage, Commuters find it very hard to ply these roads due to the heavy traffic lock down that abound on the roads. Moreover having dual carriage roads will make the state to look more developed and bring out the face of the state. If not all the roads, but important roads like Onitsha/Awka old road, Onitsha/Otuocha road, Awkuzu/Otuocha road, old Enugu road Onitsha and a host of others should be dualized.

3. Decongestion and Modernization of Onitsha city.

Onitsha, a commercial hub in Anambra state and Nigeria is highly populated and congested. There is an urgent need to decongest the city and present a present a laid out plan to make it a modern one. If Onitsha is modernized and expanded into neighboring local government, it can overtake Lagos as the center of commerce in Nigeria.

4. A flexible Transportation system in the state.[img][/img]

Anyone that has been to Anambra will attest to how hard it is for the common man to move from one place to another in the state. The state being a highly important commercial state in the country experience a high rate of daily movement of humans, goods and service, knowing about this, Dr Obiano talked about constructing a metro rail system to connect all local governments of the state together, but till today work has not commenced to that effect. There is an urgent need to ease the stress of moving from one place to another in the state because currently majority of transportation responsibility in the state is left in the hands of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada and they charge their Passengers a fortune for short distances
.
5. Paying more attention to Entertainment, Culture and tourism.

There is no doubt that majority of the high profile entertainers, musicians, writers are from Anambra State but the bad news is that all of them stay outside the state, this is because there is no enabling environment for their industry in the state. It is not too late to bring them back to the state, if we can invest more in entertainment, build some Art Galleries/theater, film/ video Village/city, tighten up security and modernize our cities, they will definitely come willing and make money for the state.
Secondly we need to invest more in Tourism and Culture, we can do this by building new infrastructures around what we already have on ground. We have a deep custom and traditions, we have Ogbunike cave, and a host of other attractions, we should make them generate money for the state.

Other things.

Dr Willie should also continue in his bid to make security water tight in the state and improve in his efforts to reduce youth unemployment in the state.

We hope that you will hearken to the voice of the masses sir and make the life of Anambra masses better.
