Globacom pioonered affordable cell phones usage by reducing the illegal charges placed on acquiring a SIM card by MTN and instituting per second billing. A feat which South African company MTN claimed was impossible and used in extorting huge phone bills from Nigerians.

Again, Globacom launched Nigeria into the ultra fast internet speed age with introduction of it's 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. Today, huge volumes of data, government agencies, corporate organisations including banks, oil and gas companies, academic institutions and health institutions, which utilize seamless data transfer for their operations will benefit immensely from Globacom’s data intensive applications. Use of internet to communicate in Nigeria has truly improved from the near self imposed exclusion we lived in a few years ago. The only thing left is to make internet usage unlimited for an affordable monthly subscription fee by creating an unlimited monthly data plan in addition to the capped data plans which are being offered.

However, since this service is based on per second data usage, it is still priced out of range for most ordinary Nigerians. The worst part is that although Nigeria has more internet users than any African country, internet activity from Nigeria is way below Kenya's or other smaller countries. This is because unlike Nigeria, internet providers in these countries provide unlimited internet access for a fixed monthly subscription cost.

Nigerians are therefore appealing to Globacom to lead the way in providing unlimited fast wireless internet access for a fixed monthly subscription cost as obtainable in other countries. This will help our universities, students and ordinary Nigerians use the internet as needed for their research and work. I Thank Glo in advance for finally removing this last digital restriction on use of internet in Nigeria.

It's actually a nice idea but will they do it? NO. They benefit alot from capped data plans.

Actually, they will gain more if they introduced an unlimited monthly subscription plan in addition to the existing capped data plan they operate. Truth is that they think they benefit but they truly don't. It was the same thinking that MTN had when they did the per minute billing. Those types of ideas restrict people from using the services, in this case internet. The fact you restrict something does not mean people will buy more than they do. You will only restrict their usage because they won't buy more than they can afford.
It also means they cannot estimate a fixed sum which they can make per year because people will only buy a little data each time. But if you switched to monthly unlimited plan, people will simply put it as part of their monthly services and just pay you every month for it. If you have one million subscribers, it the that fixed amount multiplied by one million and the company can adequately plan knowing about how much they expect from 4G lte services every month.

It is shocking that smaller African countries have unlimited internet while in Nigeria we are still talking about data plans after all these years of digital revolution.

This can be done and should already have been done. However, our market operates in a demand and supply economy. No business captain of a capitalist market ever changes his income stream on the whims and sentiments of the good of the consumer. In fact a CEO that advocates for the consumer will soon get fired by the Board.

There are three ways to disrupt and shape behavior of service providers.

1. Consumer voice
This is accomplished when the consumer shops for alternative.

2. Competition
A new innovation or pricing model emerges with comparable offers at affordable rates.

3. Government Regulation
The oversight agency releases mandates to protect consumer.

Look for one of these three to happen for the benefit of monthly service subscription. Appealing to Glo is futile, they are operating in a manner expected in a capitalist system.
