When the roads of three streets merge to form a crossroad, the meeting point belongs to all of the streets or none of them. Such is the case with the Abuja-Kaduna rail system.

However, Jonathan did the major part of the work and deserves a bigger chunk of the cake of acknowledgement. If he had not pursued the project, maybe Buhari would not have had to complete it.

Factual conclusion.

Facts of the matter:
1. OBJ conceived the idea and signed the loan contracts.

2. GEJ paid the counterpart funds and the Chinese came in and executed the project. So in summary, going by Nigeria's political logic, GEJ is simply the one who built the Abuja to Kaduna rail.

3. PMB paid off the final compensation sums and other miscellaneous sums and commisioned the project.

It is worthy of note however that with Nigeria only providing only about 47% of the total project cost at the time, PMB and other successive administrations are still the ones paying off the 53% loan chunk for the project. However, if PMB wants any of the praise (according to Nigerian political logic), then his government should try and expedite the Lagos - Ibadan track which he started.

Nigerians must stop praising political leaders for doing the barest minimum, as though they are doing us a favour when they fulfil their constitutional and statutory obligations. Rehabilitating old railway lines is not an achievement in my humble opinion.

The GEJ that started a generator just to light a bulb in the name of commissioning 15% completed Egbema power plant, would have invited Obama to help him commission Abuja-Kaduna rail line if he completed it.

To whom much is given, much is expected. Going by the oil windfall between 2009 and 2014, the rail line should have been completed in 2012 if not for the fact that stealing was not corruption under the hero.

Oil prices started falling in 2013.
You should go back to school for lessons on how corruption includes stealing but is more than stealing.

The Answer is in the write-up.

They all should get the credit. However, OBJ conceived the idea and initiated / agreed a contract with the same vendor that completed the project, therefore he should be the grand patron!

Please note that GEJ drove a tractor on Lagos - Ibadan expressway in 2011, he should not get credit for that road once completed.

Why are you not applying the same logic to Jonathan, which you applied to Obasanjo?
Are you a two-faced hypocrite?

Why is that?

He did not initiate the contract that was eventually used.

OBJ conceived a lot of things, and Yar'Adua deserves credit for renegotiating a lot of the ill-planned disasters that OBJ hastily tried to start.

That's how he started NIPP and immediately sank over $6b directly into it. Yar'Adua came and complained about the poorly-developed plan, but because of how much had been invested in it and talks from other quarters, in the end he had to add his own $5b too. GEJ came and added $8b. Do you know that same project is yet to be complete?

If Yar'Adua hadn't canceled the trash OBJ signed (imaging signing a contract for a project that has no design) and then did due diligence to design a workable project from the ground up, I'm sure like the NIPP, we'd not be commissioning anything at this point.

OBJ had nice ideas, but the plans were just disasters.

GEJ deserves much credit for starting the project, but I'd put Yar'Adua above OBJ for setting the foundation.

I don't really think we should start asking who should be honour or who not to be honour all that really matters is that the project is fully completed. And that should be the spirit of a country.
What will really need in a government is continuity irrespective of the party in government.

OBJ originated the project, brought in the chinese and negotiated the loan deal with the Chinese EXIM bank for the Lagos to Kano standard gauge rail line of which the Abuja to Kaduna stretch is just a part if it. Whether the contract was reversed or revamped or revived or redrawn, that's inconsequential and doesnt in any way change the story.

How is it inconsequential?

If Buhari had done it, would you term it inconsequential?

Give Yar'Adua his dues. He nipped a disaster in the bud. Unfortunately, his hands were tied when it came to the NIPP. I'm certain he would have axed OBJ's flawed plan, and we wouldn't have had to spend $20+b to generate 2500MW.

What you termed inconsequential could have been abhorrently costly if Yar'Adua wasn't diligent.

It's like saying if Buhari did due diligence on GEJ's ATA and found it to be shambolic, trashes it, then setup a workable plan. Then what Buhari did would be inconsequential.

In the spirit of sportsmanship, national unity and cohesion, Buhari should have invited GEJ as an honoured guest at the commissioning. Imagine what this would have done to his image as a nationalist and father of all. But how would he do that when he's surrounded by leeches like Elrufai and other bigots?.

You already have a corrupted mindset to insult someone from your speech. You didn't mention OBJ again at all. Ok, since your hero wasn't invited again, what will you do now heh? And he will be defeated in 2019 again. Salt upon injury be that

This goes on to show that our so called leaders do not have deep thinking ability.

When the colonial masters where here we had a working railway system which perished like other institution handed over us after we took over ownership and management.

All that this politicians want is to take credit for who built and commissioned the railway just as bubu is doing now but the reality is finding out how to manage an efficient and sustainable railway system.

Our problem is not to build but how to manage and maintain. Just look at a monument like the stadium in Abuja built at very huge cost without proper management plan on ground is now a ghost town.
Therefore, all the dgital bla bla bla cannot be maintained by the way we are.

We need an established maintenance unit nation wide for such a project. An efficient security wooven around the project. Highly trained personnel and and ticketing system in place. Not all this who built railway line argument. The same mistakes of the past still been repeated over again.

The entire project should just be outsourced to a foreign expert to manage if we want to make anything of this.

Not putting one bereft northern to go and warm the MD position as usual in the Nigerian style.

Controversy like this are the soul reason why many projects are been abandoned in this country.
I see no reason why topic like this should be raised by a reputable person like Sen: Ben Bruce.
What of if President Buhari chooses to abandon the rail-way project ?

The problem I've with this administration is that they are always quick to quote that government is a continuum when it suits their narrative but easily distance themselves when it doesn't,take the case of the confab report as an example. They are always quick to claim projects predating this administration but quick to distance themselves from the challenges and liabilities that predate this administration rather choosing blame game instead of accepting responsibility.Imagine the president who claims not to understand why oil subsidy was being paid before he got to power is now itching towards returning back to paying it in 2018,same way he's jam talking about restructuring right now, don't be surprised if him and apc give in to it before 2019 and claim it as an achievement.
