I really don't get the point of all these courtesy visits so maybe someone can explain it to me. What I see is, you leave your own domain which you preside over to pay homage to someone else in their own domain and then afterwards you return without there having been any direct benefit or even any real or legitimate motivation. I just don't get it.

The point is that there's no point.
It's a bloody waste of time and state resources if the visit is not going to make any meaningful impact on the lives of the people, whether in the short or long term.
