A group of Fulani herdsmen, under the aegis of Global Peace and Life Rescue Initiative (GOPRI) has backed the Federal Government initiative on the proposed cattle colony as part of measures to end protracted wave of killings mostly between herders and farmers.

The organisation said in Abuja that the initiative would not only generate over N1.2 trillion in annual revenue but also create an estimated 322,000 direct new jobs for Nigerians across the country.

The Director Press and Public Affairs of GOPRI Dr Emeka Ugwanyi, said, “Cattle colony is the best option for Nigeria now because it's going to house several ranches with all the basic amenities in one place. It will control the arbitrary spread of ranches thus making it easier for good policing. The policy will further create about 322,000 direct new jobs across the country and it's estimated to generate over N1.2 trillion as annual revenue for Nigeria.

“Above all, it will permanently stop the open grazing practice thereby halting the farmers and herdsmen conflict. It is laughable and a show of ignorance for some people to still be talking about forceful collection of land from the locals for same purpose in any part of Nigeria as no responsible government in the world does that in this age. Nigeria should eschew partisanship as well as religious, ethnic, sectional and political sentiments that have unfortunately beclouded our sense of reasoning,” Ugwanyi said.

yeah, we all know that cattle colony or ranching is the solution.

But the Federal Government shouldn't be the one buying land and providing grazing grass for this herdsmen.

The have been selling their cows for millions of naira daily in cattle markets around the country, so many of them can easily afford to buy ranches.

We should stop rewarding criminality in this country please.
Instead of the Government talking about how to compensate farmers who lost their lives to this murderous herdsmen from hell, and put 'em in jail, the are trying so hard to convince us that this murderers should be rewarded with a ranch , so that the can stop killing.

The govt does not need to involve in cattle colonies if it has no hidden agenda. All the points raised are achievable without govt's interference. Let the 'imaginary ranch' owners group themselves the way they normally contribute towards their periodic genocides act and establish their own cattle colonies as businessmen.

They forgot to tell us how much IGR and how many jobs ranches will create but were able to put a figure to their evil cattle colony idea. Even if the colonies generate the whole national budget as revenue, the herders/cow merchants don't pay tax.
