@ Mobinga, it depends. If you watch ordinary tv, StarTimes will be a BIG improvement.

I'm not too impressed by the kids channels (there are about two, Kidsco and Nickelodeon), there's a weird mix of films e.g. E-Stars shows lots of Nollywood films, while MGM shows lots of old films. Personally I don't mind as you do come across some good films in between the dross. In addition, some of the local channels are available. Not sure where you live, but we get Channels, Galaxy, TVC, Silverbird, NTS and MiTV. The reception is so much better through the StarTimes box. The South African channel, e.TV is available and good viewing (many of MiTVs programmes are recorded from them!).

If you want to get it, make sure you have a good aerial - apparently that and your location determines how may channels you will receive. We get 36 but we know of someone who gets 40. The StarTimes dealers should also sell an aerial for between N2500 and N3000. It's pretty good, in my opinion. the other thing is ask for your free months' subscription, of the dealer will take your money and not tell you.

The only problems we've had are that sometimes the screen goes blank for a while. The first weekend we had it we didn't pick up anything, we thought it was the aerial. It was only after a few calls that we were told it was a problem they were aware of. Sometimes - especially on the news channels - the sound is out of synch. I'll wait until the rainy season starts to find out ''even if rain fall like Tsunami you go dey kampe''

We've had it for about a month and for a N1000 subcription, it's worth it. Hope this helps.

What's really going on with startimes, just 36 channels and repeating all your programmes,I am fed up and you need to truly upgrade it,

My Startime is showing 'No Access Not subscribed' despite a 1k subscription yesterday that is why i abandon there service since Feburuary. Calling there office you hardly get through and when you call it Chinko that you cannot here what is saying that will talk to you. I even tried there web based loading i dont know how to get a password. It is just frustrating

u have to pay to watch it and u cant get supercreen with it. but u can still watch supercreen on yr local network not on startimes

10s for your reply i really appreciate it. But yet my question has not be answer. What am asking is that is it possible to watch local station on startimes tv without subscription not decoder. A frnd of mine said is not possible because startimes tv comes wit inbuild decoder ,dat d atena port at the back of d tv is made for d decoder. Atena only help d inbuild decoder 2 pick more station. So without subscription no hope of watching local station on their tv with atena cos atena work with inbuit decoder?
Is this statment true not false? I wil like 2 comfirm from pple using their tv

Startimes paytv is using digital terrestrial transmission (A.K.A DTT) if there tvs are designed to receive only DTT signals then you can't view/watch local channels which are "analogue" on it. There are some Tvs which can receive both type of signals. So what you need to find out from the dealer(s) is if it can receive analogue signals.
