One thing I've usually seen as a positive side of colonization is that it gave us (black Africans) a common language, while I see many negative effects of colonization too. But, we are united under European languages and I strongly believe that language form influences culture, thinking and worldview.. Would it be a good idea, now that we are more exposed to a world scale knowledge of our place in it, as Africans, to keep our undoubtedly beneficial language unity but instead honor our own African languages per region? For example, in the AU recognized region ECOWAS, what African language should we make official for all the region, so that our own African languages represent our unity and why? The most spoken native languages are, in order, Hausa, Yoruba, Fula, Igbo, etc according to wikipedia. For instance, while the francophone and anglophone african countries keep French and English as official respectively, what regional African language can we use to bond the Anglophone and Francophone through a common regional adoption?
