The release of some students of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State abducted by Boko Haram on February 19 was on Wednesday confirmed by the Presidency.

Earlier on Wednesday, CNG reported that the terrorist group returned 105 of the 110 schoolgirls at the school where they were kidnapped with the remaining 5 feared dead.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed the release in an interview, according to The Punch.

Shehu promised to give further details on the development later.

“Yes, the girls are being transported to safety. We will give details later. We thank God,” the presidential spokesman said.

Release of the students came just one week after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the school where they were kidnapped.

During his visit to the school, Buhari had promised the parents of the abducted schoolgirls that the Federal Government will not leave any stone unturned until their wards are safely returned back home.
