SalamRushdie: Honestly, I am lost for words. These people are drowning... but I will appeal to Nigerians not to make the same mistakes as in 2015. Please no knee jerk reactions. Let this President continue a second term and force him to do the right thing in government. We should know that democracy is not only about elections and empowering leaders via the ballot box but not letting go of the reins of power. 2 Likes |

LOL, Buhari is not clueless on security, you saw how he sent the army to confront IPOB, the displacement of non fulani residents and replacing them with such is very intentional, he said himself that an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North, you see how many terrorists have been 'reformed' and released, if that is not clear enough, $1.09Billion was budgeted for education of the whole country while $1Billion was requested to fight Boko Haram, another 4 years of this and we would drown in blood and illiteracy like the North, Reference: |

Very disappointing response. An incumbent President has an advantage during elections for obvious reasons. To be a President is not a do-or-die affair. The legacy of a man cannot be built with the blood of innocent citizens. |

A little helping hand to the govt here: 1. Obasanjo did not blame past governments during his tenure. He went to work and judging by the current performance of Buhari's govt can be said to have achieved so much (or too much if you like). At least he kept the wolves out (the past military that were spoiling for another go and their hangers-on) and paid off our debts amidst other minor-to- medium achievements depending on individual yardsticks. 2. Yaradua also did not blame the past govts but went to work and there was progress, how be it short-lived by his illness and eventual demise. He also did very well when compared to Buhari. He was able to calm the restiveness in the Niger-Delta region etc. 3. Jonathan, even if inexperienced about the complex political climate he got into, can now be adjudged to have done favorably well as he set to work amidst threats and diverse sabotage that made the country ungovernable as promised by some elements who felt bitter at his presidency probably because he was an outsider. He also refrained from blaming the past governments, and was exceptional in his conduct of handing over power to an opposition party when it mattered most (for this he will for a long time be remembered). 4. Buhari has so far inundated us with unsolicited stories of how the immediate past government ruined the Nigerian economy through corruption and widespread stealing. Frankly, there is nothing wrong in stating this as a fact after the law had taken its due course of bringing all culprits to book- and not media trials. What is unacceptable is to make the past government's performance the only state-wide project that the government is showcasing. This has become the strategy for the current government's shelving of its responsibility for delivering on promises made during the election campaign, which ought to to be this government's main focus. Interestingly, the same government related corruption cases, stealing and incompetence that were touted against the previous govt are still there today (perhaps with much more mismanagement of resources and crucial issues such as herdsmen killings, boko haram etc), if not much worse. Now we have added to Nigeria's plate- accusations of state-complicit ethnic cleansing in the middle-belt, more religious and ethnic divisions that are synonymous with pre civil-war proportions etc. Therefore, it is safe to assume that so much will also be exposed about this government if Buhari were to relinquish power today as we may already be having a repeat of the level of waste of resources witnessed in Nigeria prior to 2015 elections under Jonathan. What with the proposed amount of 1Billion dollars for security procurements that are underway. The question is why should the poor people who gave their mandate to Buhari in 2015, give this government another 4 years to continue along an established course of deterioration and lack of accountability?! Finally, this government, like Jonathan's, was given its mandate by the people, and should therefore have done all in its power to serve the people by changing those things that brought Nigeria to its knees namely; tribalism, nepotism, relegation of merit for quota, large central govt at the detriment of the federating states, comatose electricity power, inadequate educational systems, inadequate health systems etc. On this list feeds the main culprit that the government keeps attempting to capture, howbeit with very little success; CORRUPTION!!! In a country such as ours, Corruption can only be fought well systematically. Jonathan appeared to understand this through his reduced meddling in the affairs of the govt agencies; but somehow lost the ball perhaps due to some bad influence and some inexperience with management. WE CAN MAKE IT IF WE TRY!!! Campusity: 1 Like |
