General Yakubu Gowon

Many Nigerians still consider Gowon to be a national hero because he fought to keep Nigeria one, but the truth is that the international community considers Gowon to be a genocidal killer. Indeed, Gowons 9 year rule gulped the lives over 4 million people. Respected British journalist, author and military historian, Frederick Forsyth said that Gowon fought the war, not out of any genuine desire to keep Nigeria united, but for the selfish economic and political interests of a Northern cabal. Other allegations against Gowon is that he caused the war by not keeping to the Aburi agreement, destroying Nigeria's political landscape by abolishing the 4 Regions then creating states and not keeping to the 3 R's. Gowons use of starvation as an instrument of warfare is today a war crime. Gowon is ranked along with President Amin of Uganda and President Mengitsu Haile of Ethiopia as among the top 10 killers in Africa

Murtala Mohammed

His short brutal regime saw him catapulted into Nigerian folklore. Suddenly, Murtala Mohammed had Airports, major highways, buildings and landmarks named after him. He was even put on the N20 note. Was Murtala Mohammed the hero he was made out to be? Not at all!
The truth is that Murtala Mohammed was a "dyed in the wool" killer. His many crimes include leading the second military coup in Nigeria where he killed over 300 officers over ethnic sentiments, ordering the execution of POW's during the war, supervising the Asaba massacre and sacking over 11,000 civil servants when he came to power. Murtala Mohammed was a genocidal killer, a war criminal and a sociopath.

General Sani Abacha

To this day, many Nigerians still consider the late dark goggled despot as one of the best "heads of state" ever produced in the country. But the truth is that Sani Abacha was a ruthless, merciless killer. Besides the first coup, Sani Abacha played a key role in every successful coup in the history of Nigeria. But his real lust for blood took a frightening turn when he became head of state. He tolerated no opposition. Kudirat Abiola and Ken Saro-Wiwa were all dispatched to great beyond by Abacha. Obasunjo, Oladipo Diya, the Sultan of Sokoto, MKO Abiola, Pa Alfred Rewane to mention a few were all clamped into detention. Many opposition leaders were hounded into exile. Abacha was also highly corrupt, millions of Dollars in stolen funds stashed by him in foreign banks has become a global case-study of corruption. Besides being the most successful coup plotter in Nigerias history, Abacha was a deadly killer.
