Crisis Brews In NASS Over Sharing Of N578bn ‘padded Budget’ Projects by Ecstasy154(m): 6:00am On Jun 22, 2018
By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor

The stunning revelation by the Presidency that the National Assembly inserted personal projects worth N578 billion into the 2018 budget has stirred a serious dissension among members of the National Assembly, Vanguard learned, yesterday.

It was learned that many members of NASS who were unaware of the huge amount of money and phantom projects ‘built’ into the budget by the leadership, became very upset with the expose by the Presidency and have threatened to vent their anger on those who perpetrated the ‘cheating’ as soon as the legislature resumes.

The lawmakers are upset that most of them were allocated meagre projects and services valued at less than N50 million by the leadership of NASS, whereas each of them would have gone home with at least N1 billion allocation of the N578 billion.

There are 109 Senators and 360 House of Representatives members in the NASS and given the amount of N578 billion alleged to have been inserted into the budget, each member is supposed to have received at least N1 billion worth of project amounting to N469 billion, with a surplus of N109 billion for the top leaders of the legislature.

But one of the lawmakers from the South-West, who pleaded anonymity, said he was disappointed that the leadership of the NASS ‘actively short-changed’ some other members by allocating very small amount to them to service their communities but unjustifiably set aside huge amounts to themselves.

“We have to thank Mr. President for this eye-opening revelation on the padding of the 2018 budget by the NASS and we will take it from there when we resume in short while from now.

No security vote for State House —Udoma

In the meantime, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, has said there was no truth in the report by Amnesty International, entitled Camouflaged Cash: How ‘Security Votes’ Fuel Corruption in Nigeria, which “indicated, in part, that the Presidency was not only appropriating but “has also increased the number of security votes tucked into the Federal budget in the last two years.”

Answering questions during the budget briefing session, yesterday, in Abuja, the minister said it was necessary to state clearly that there was no line item as security vote in the State House budget.

Udoma said: “There are also provisions for military interventions in the North-East (insurgency), Operation Lafiya Dole, as well as other specific operations of the Armed Forces such as Operation Python Dance, Operation Crocodile Smile and very recently, Operation Cat Race, etc.

“Owing to the growing number of internal security issues, a provision of N75 billion was made for these exercises in the service-wide votes, not State House vote, in 2018.”

Nigeria! Nigeria!! Nigeria!!!

How many times did I call you undecided

Sometimes I sit down on my own and wonder what crime did we commit as a nation that we can't be forgiven that things have to degenerate to this level .. undecided

Somebody will sit down and think that the anger some are venting on others on the issue that concerns the budget is national interest undertone or motivated .

One is even thanking the president for opening thier eyes to the rigmaro taking place within the house in terms of some getting elephant project and others rat projects .. they even have a name for it "phantom project".

But a day is coming when monkey go go market but e nu go come back ...

God bless Nigeria.

Democracy can never work for Nigeria.

Democracy is not meant for all countries.

Our democracy is almost 20 years old and it's getting worse, not better.

Gov Ganduje of Kano's daughter married Gov Ajimobi of Oyo's son!
Yes bro , Dangote's Daughter married former IGP Mohammed's son!
Bros ! Buhari's daughter married the richest man's son from Borno State .
Abike Dabiri , former lawmaker and now special adviser to the president on foreign matters is now an inlaw to Gov . Ibikunle Amosun , governor of Ogun State.
Let me inform you again that, Prof Yemi Osibanjo's daughter was taken to the same kind of home marrying the son of one of the richest black women in Nigeria .
Their children study abroad , start work abroad , get married abroad , go to hospitals abroad , treat headache and cough abroad , give birth abroad, establish businesses abroad , go for vacation abroad , et al.
Yet, they come out later to give you guns, machete, axes and few thousands of naira to cut your fellow brothers down in the name of election . Believe me, they will be coming to you again come2019 .
Bros ! If u are only good as political thugs , ballot box snatchers , and not as an in-law , then u have Problem .

I will keep saying it,both the people in the presidency and the NASS are all together in these. They can only tell that to the gullubles. How can you as a president agree to sign the budget knowing fully well that it was padded? Don't he have the right to reject it ? Last years own was padded, you signed, this one again you still signed. I believe this people are using the strategy of divide and rule here. They make us believe that they are for us but they re not. NASS is corrupt yes,but why our president agree to sign it knowing fully well that it is padded is what I'm yet to under stand.

Let sincere military take over jo, after all several infrastructures that we are enjoying now were built by the military.

We need military men that will not stay more than two years and their job will be to bring sanity to the land again, ban existing politicians from contesting elections again, create and instill discipline in the system, raise young, intelligent and pro active breed without greed whose mission will be to serve and not to loot.

These current politicians are worst than the devil who is the father of lies.

Of a truth we need to start afresh.

Was the budget passed and approved through the back door or what, so the South west and South East senators and house of reps didn't know when key southern project were slashed by over 50% or they just chose to keep quiet so the money can be allocated to their personal pockets in the name of constituency projects because I don't believe they were unaware.

Let it be known that when projects are not completed this was the reason why.

This NASS is an epidemic, we Nigerians need to pay attention to those elected there, it's not about governors or presidents. This guys are the main crooks. OKONJO iweala even exposed them when she said they forced her to add 17bn to their budget in the recent book she released.

Let it be public knowledge of their dealings.

Na so we go dey watch and sleep, and ask Jesus to do what He has empowered us to do. Jesus go do im work. We go still dey send am our own work. Are we not just lazy? One day, our eyes go clear when these thieves finish the country and travel with their family to countries where stashed the funds. Na that time, we go no say, we have been robbed!

Abeg, lets wake up and make demands. Let's ask questions. In a sane city, what happened in Ojuelegba few days back would have caused closure of the bridge through protest until the trucks leave. But we have gone back to hiding, and the politicians to their stealing. Our eyes go clear soon!
