Dress Code: Enugu lawmaker embarrassed for wearing sleeveless to Assembly
From PETRUS OBI, Enugu

Wednesday, June 23, 2010
Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly yesterday protested over the dressing of one of its female members who wore a sleeveless dress to the Assembly and ensured she did not make a single contribution throughout the sitting on Tuesday.

http://odili.net/news/source/2010/jun/23/500.html

It was an embarrassing drama as the legislators who were deliberating on a Motion on Notice to congratulate Dr. Emmanuel Okwesilieze Nwodo, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) shouted their colleague down.

The legislator, representing Udi South State Constituency, Chika Eneh, stood up to make her contribution when her colleagues protested about her mode of dressing and shouted her down with the chant, “improper dressing.”

The Speaker, Eugene Odo, requested the House Chief Whip, Teresa Egbu, to confirm if Chika was properly dressed but she took the microphone and pleaded with the speaker to forgive the Udi representative.

Chika, who was dressed in a sleeveless black gown with white dots, was denied the opportunity to contribute because she was not properly dressed.

During an interaction with journalist the Speaker explained that the action of the legislators in respect of Chika was merely within the provision of the Standing Order of the Assembly.

Odoh further explained that the action was not intended to undermine or embarrass anybody and pointed out that the issue of dressing and conduct within the chambers lie with the Chief Whip.

There was a another drama in the office of the Speaker when plain clothes security men attached to Odoh attempted to seize camera and mobile phones from journalists who took pictures of a portrait of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua which still occupieds the position of the president in the Speaker’s office alongside that of Governor Sullivan Chime and the speaker.

Explaining why Yar’Adua’s picture was still adorning his office about two months after Goodluck Jonathan became president, Odoh said the house was planning a farewell session for the late Yar’Adua and that the picture would remain there until the session is held.

The assembly resolved to congratulate Nwodo for his emergence as the national chairman of the PDP and thanked President Goodluck Jonathan, Chime, PDP governors, members of the Board of Trustees, National Working Committee, National Executive Council and all stakeholders of the PDP for Nwodo’s emergence.

The Assembly pledged their support and readiness to work with Nwodo as the national chairman of the party.

And the lady is question, is she their wife?  NO, or their daughter? Nope

She is their equal*, "Zero Tolerance my foot" what right do they have to tell her how to dress, none what so ever, no more than she has to tell them what to wear.

*[i]Elected members of the same house, for those of you who don't speak English/i]

When they get back to their family houses they can decree whatever they want. In the house no bloody way. What we should have is "Zero Tolerance" for Idiots, Liars and thieves, however that would mean that we would never have a quorum in any house in the country

What an embarrassing bunch of retards dressed as law makers. What has Chika's mode of dressing got to do with the fact that they are using legislative time to discuss stupid issues which in my own opinion is simple sycophancy> I can bet you that they may have been informed that the poor lady would have opposed their sycophancy and that nonsense was yo stop her and divert the attention of the house from the true state of their stupidity.

The woman left her home without her husband complaining why should it then matter to these fools. They are just being silly.she can wear whatever she likes so long as she knows what she is doing. A person's mode of dressing does not and will never determine their level of intelligence or relevance of their thoughts. With respect they should all go to hell and no one should give them votes to go and discuss sycophancy instead ways of stopping the rampant kidnapping, armed robbery and other forms of crime in Enugu. fools!!!!!

lmao Biko, that's not my pix jare.

I mean, if they made such a big issue on her dress, it's either she has that girl's figure or the dress was something like that.

Prolly the law makers were angry because they know that they thought she was teasing them.
