Nigerians are the highest paid politicians in the world, but look at the shambles the country is in.
What do we pay these people for? To sit on the Bottom?
I weep for Naija. We need a bloody revolution like the French Revolution.

Its even more painful when u realize that the combined mental bandwith of all the honorable senators is less than half that of a US senate member.
Imagine-"hardship allowance" how unimaginative can you get to cover your thieving track. A pry school pupil will be able to think up sth better that truly makes sense.

What do you expect when thieves are in power. A Nation that has been ruled and governed by illiterates until Yaradua came in. Until the Labour take charge by going on Nation wide strike, we will continue to suffer. Thousand of graduates are jobless instead of the other way round. Jobs should be waiting for them.
Greed and exploitation is the national anthem.

This is what we get for allowing ourselves to be deceived by the west that "the worst civilian government is better than the best military government". Can you really compare Nigeria to Libya or Egypt or even the monarchies in the gulf region? We should evolve a system of government best suited to our needs and peculiar circumstances and not what the western world think is best for us. I have witnessed six military governments and four civilian governments in Nigeria and I dare say that we had always fared better with the military. Almost all the landmark federal and state projects were executed under the military.
Democracy, they say, is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. The major catalyst for good governance is the fear of being driven out by the people. This can not be said of Nigeria's civilian government (not democracy) because they know once they get there, they stay there forever, no matter how they perform. It is the military that even have a semblance of democracy because, at least, they are afraid of their other colleagues booting them out. High time we ended this charade.
|Re: Salary Of A Nigerian Politician by sleekymag(m): 6:02pm On Jul 01, 2010|
Salary U.S. President: $250,000/yr.
Point of correction, the salary of the US President is $400,000/yr, it became effective in January 2001.
However, how sure are we as regards the true figures you gave for the avaerage Nigerian Politician, we know it can be as high as that though.
It's really baffling how insensitive these people can be. If they were earning these money and there was no other form of corruption (contracts being awarded, bribery etc), we could argue its fair enough, but no, they still plunder, pilfer, manipulate and so on, whilst providing bad leadership and leaving the masses the worse for it.

You are wrong. the military is one of the main reason we are in this predicament. nothing beats democracy. the problem is the citizenry. democracy cannot work if citizens allow rubish to continue.
