Ahead of the 2019 general elections, about 5,000 members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State.

The defected PDP members were led into APC by a former Speaker of the Abia House of Assembly and former Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Arua Arunsi.

Others who decamped alongside Arunsi included, a Special Adviser to the Abia Governor, Chief Ndukwe Orji Agu and former Member of the State House of Assembly, Agwu. U. Agwu.

Nkporo Ohafia is the hometown of the Abia deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu.

Speaking at Nkporo in Ohafia local government area of the state, while declaring for APC, on Friday, Arunsi said it was the desire to develop Nkporo that motivated him and his supporters to join the APC family.

He said, “All our desire as politicians are to see that Nkporo Ohafia enjoy access roads and other democratic dividends.

“It is very unfortunate that all our sacrifices for PDP was not rewarded with democratic benefits.

“I’m confident that if the APC gets into power, Nkporo Ohafia will benefit from the developmental plan that Dr. Uche Ogah and the party will be bringing into the state”.

Earlier in his speech, the APC governorship candidate in Abia state, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, commended the PDP decampees for their courage to pitch tent with the APC and assured that the people of the state would witness unprecedented development in all sectors of the state economy if elected as governor.

Welcoming the defectors during the declaration ceremony, the State chairman of APC, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, assured the new party members that they would be carried along in the affairs of the party in the state, reiterating that the party, APC, was determined to enthrone the needed change in Abia come 2019.

Nwankpa took a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in the state over alleged poor performances and vowed that his party will send the governor and the PDP packing from the state government house in 2019.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Abia state and the Director General of Uchechukwu Ogah Governorship Campaign Organization, Barrister Kelvin Ugboaja, on Friday, stated that the Peoples Democratic Party, will collapse before the 2019 general elections.

These defections only go to show that Nigerian politics hasn't matured enough.

You hardly see a republican crossing over to the Democratic party or otherwise in the united states, or such thing in Europe. This is because political parties are fueled by ideologies which reflect the very mindset of its members. So you can't because of a little grievance dump your party and move to another one with a completely different ideology. You'd be like a fish out of water.

Besides it goes to show APC and PDP are the same thing. Why didn't Nairaland Buharideens insult Atiku in 2015 when he declared support for Buhari? Why didn't they call him out for helping funding his campaign and all. But now that he's in PDP they suddenly remember he has a case to answer in the US. Smh.

Politics- more of a game of deceit, distrust and disloyalty than just of number. The number is merely a necessary facade that is needed to ignite the engine of rigging. It's not only peculiar to Nigeria or Africa alone, the Russian involvement in the U.S presidential election says it all that the rigging web has gone world wide. Nigeria is just more pronounced and proud of it, sadly. Na who sabi rig pass be the boss. Definitely why they took that leadership position from mr Gentlejack and gave it to Osho the master rigger. And trust me, he's done them proud so far and the future is even brighter with the likes of Saraki hurt on one of his wings, Kwankwaso moling for his brother, Atiku running outta funds (thanks to his statutory supporters), Ekweremadu still contemplating transfer of ownership and the Igbos and niger delta divided (all thanks to Kanu and Akpabio respectively). All they just need for 2019 is a single line at every poll (even if na only the aspirants come cast vote), leave the rest to the REAL inec officials. C'mon, let's face it, we all know Buhari has won this election don't we? And no one is touching Saraki's senate ticket, only he's not coming back as the next SP. Point and fact is, your PVC has no say and we have another 4years of buhari (or jubrin, if you like). When we are ready for a real positive change, we will know, because, it begins with YOU. Even if APC got it all wrong, they got this right.
