I would really love the 2008 camry xle but people are discouraging me. They say our roads are too bad. I want your advice on this,

So, I was looking at a 2008/2009 honda CRV EX. Also a 2006/2007 Toyota Highlander.

I travel long distances sometimes, and i do a lot of daily heavy in-town driving.


I would love advice on this. If these are not good cars, what other options are available Please bear in mind that the car I end up purchasing will be used everyday for at least 3-4 years so pls factor durability and style in your advice,

In this case, your optimal choice would be the Honda CR-V. I agree totally with acelaw.

I had the opportunity of driving the CRV and the Camry(xle) today, and boy, I think i'm even more confused,

The Camry felt Right in every way, the acceleration, smoothness of the ride, the dashboard, boy!!!!

The CRV was, well, just there, nothing 2 fantastic, just that its has better clearance from the ground.

The dealers advised me to go with the Camry. According to them, it will last longer and will a better second hand value, if i eventually decide to re-sell. They also said that it would be easier to maintain.

They also said the 2006/2007 highlander was far better than the CRV. They said the only reason they would not recommend it for a young guy is the fuel consumption (being a V6 and all dat). They also said that reselling will be hard because the 2000-2007 model have the same form factor and that already, a new model is out.

This was another strong point for the Camry the 2011 model still has the same form factor with that of the 2007 model.

The form factor 2010 CRV has also been altered (with a new front bumper, front grill and lights).


PLSSSS KEEP THE POSTS COMMING, I need the advice of experienced dealers, car owners and mechanics who have probably dealt with these cars in the past,

@poster. . . It's obvious u want d camry so go for irrespectiv irrespectiv of wich is technically a better car. "Personally" I'll pick d 2009 Highlander from d options available but have u considered d 2009 AVALON, it's much better dan d camry

@t0kunb0, the 2009 highlander is most def' a lovely car, i would have jumped at it without a second thought. but, its way beyond my budget, As for the avalon, i believe the cost of maintenance will be crazily high cos its not so common,

@esaxze. . . i bliv if u can afford d 2008 CRV, u can surely afford d 2006/07 avalon (just an asumption)

The highlander is actually a taller and heavier version of the camry.... So you get the camry and better ground clearance all in one. The earlier versions usually had the V4 option I don't know if it got phased out in the later/newer year/models. Anyone with that info... Pls share.

I have experience with the three cars you mentioned. I do not know if you have already bought a car but my contribution is this:
The camry is a really loveley ride and a good resell value. I would have recommended it for you but because you travel very frequently, this means you can encounter bad roads. So, I will advise against it. Unless you are sure of good roads.

The Highlander is a better option. You have good ground clearance and good performance. You will only need to handle higher fuel consumption and higher maintenance because of the V6 engine. Again, for a frequent traveller, this might not be ideal. Not so good resell value.

The CRV has a good ground clearance, the same fuel consumption with the Honda Accord, good resell value, not so high maintenance, and dependable. The interior might not be as cool as the Camry but this is the best option for you.

Just my two cents.

Honda can't provide your needs as a daily car user for 3-4years, I suggest u go for the toyota highlander. Its durable, rugged, and looks masculine. I've not heard of any issues or complains about the highlander, the engine and gearbox are both awesome, and so are the shocks. U get to choose between a 2.7liter engine which has a better fuel economy but less power n speed, and a 3.5liter v6 which has almost 100bhp more than the 2.7liter, moves faster, smoother ride but consumes for fuel. So its ur choice sir.. The camry is also good but u didn't state ur location, so if u are living in a place like lagos u would really need a car with great ground clearance, but If u are living in a place like abuja u should go for the camry. And personally I would choose toyota against honda anytime, any place and any day.

I would advice the OP on a 2007 highlander, anyday anytime.....
