Those who know one or two things about politics should not be surprised by this. Jonathan does not understand politics simply because he has never contested and won any election before. His accendacy has always been by default up till now. Unfortunately, now he is going to learn in a hard way. All fingers crossed. grin grin grin

2011: Govs sell out on Jonathan •President’s strategy team launches “Operation 10 Governors”

THE political strategy team of President Goodluck Jonathan has launched a massive campaign to win at least 10 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for his presidential aspiration.

Presidency sources disclosed that the strategy team resolved on the massive campaign at the weekend when indications from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that the party congresses must be held between September and October this year.

A highly placed source in the presidency said the president and his strategy team were becoming impatient with state governors elected on the ticket of the PDP who have so far indicated that they are not excited about the candidacy of President Jonathan.

The source said the posture of the governors had become more worrying, because the promise of support which many of them gave anytime they visited the president at the Presidential Villa usually turned out to be contrary to what they were doing in their respective states.

A presidential aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that security reports from many of the states contradicted the support promised by the state governors.

The governors, who had been found to be untruthful in their proclamation of support for the president, cut across the states of the federation.

A source said the list of governors found unreliable in the race for the presidency kept increasing by the day, throwing the calculations of the team into confusion.

According to the source, security reports from the states indicated that some of the governors returned to their respective states to mobilise support for other presidential candidates other than President Jonathan.

“The worst culprits are from the North and South-West,” a source said.

He said the presidency had found out that many of the northern governors who pledged their support for President Jonathan, in spite of the zoning arrangement in the party, had been found out to be deceiving him.

Although the strategy team members could not put a finger on the cause of the massive deceit that had afflicted their campaign, a source close to them said many of the governors might be retracing their steps after realising that their continued support for the president might lead to electoral revolt against them in the governorship election.

The source was emphatic on Sunday night that governors of the South-West were among the culprits.

Speaking against the background of the endorsement of President Jonathan by the South-West caucus of the party in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, he said it was an open secret that, at least, three of the four governors in the zone were supporting other presidential candidates other than President Jonathan.

He said the purported endorsement in the South-West was taken with a pinch of salt in the presidency because members of the strategy team and aides of the president knew that the endorsement was not true.

The president was said to have resolved to schedule a meeting with prominent politicians and businessmen from the South-West who could help to boost his support base in the geopolitical zone.

“The president is not deceived. In fact, last week, he initiated meetings with pro-minent leaders like Alhaji Arisekola-Alao in Lagos to bypass the governors who appeared determined to disgrace him in the South-West,” a highly-placed presidential source disclosed on Sunday.

The initiative by the president’s men to reach the South-West leaders directly was agreed upon after it was realised that a major problem facing their campaign in the South-West was the reluctance of many party chieftains to accept former President Obasanjo as chief salesman of Jonathan in the zone.

According to the source, many of the prominent people from the South-West, whom President Jonathan had met, had told him the truth that the Yoruba “do not have anything against him but that he has inherited the unpopularity of former President Obasanjo by making him his salesman in the South-West.”

With doubts on the South-West and  the insistence of South-East governors to support a northern presidential candidate in anticipation of northern support for a president of the South-East extraction in 2015, the strategy team of President Jonathan had shifted their attention to the North to garner more support.

Last week, Chief Edwin Clark, paid a surprise visit to Mallam Adamu Ciroma, leader of the G15, which had been championing the cause of zoning the position of president to the North.

Presidency sources said Clark pleaded with Ciroma to get the North to support Jonathan, with a promise that he would serve only one term and facilitate the return of power to the North in 2015.
The source said Ciroma said it was too late to take such  a position.

He was said to have counselled that the people in the North had been so mobilised in support of zoning that any leader who stood up against it at this time would be risking his integrity and political relevance.

A source in the presidency, on Sunday, said the presidency and top notchers of the PDP were determined to achieve the objectives of  “Operation 10 governors,” believing that if they had 10 of the 29 PDP governors in the three-prong battle among Jonathan, Ibrahim Baban-gida and Atiku Abubakar, he would still be able to come out victorious

This whole process of Jonathan/IBB trying to buy all Governors and political personas just shows that Nigerian elections are a sham, and the next election will be also despite the appointment of Jega.

@ Giyaz

You are a failed soul campaigning for a failed Devil, posting a failed propaganda by a failed (N10million) induced journalist, all in the attemp of turning Nigeria into a failed state. This is purely Maradona's style of divide and cash-in. Giya, u and your evil candidate will be buried in Hell very very soon when the primaries begin. So SW Gov now find it more popular to campaign for the Murderer that killed one of their own (MKO), threw their zone into crisis by annulling their mandate and instituting the one they never like (OBJ). You ar spitting thrash, no amount of propangada will safe d Evil One from disgrace come September.

The North, at the grassroots, is more or less an ocean of illiterates. They will vote for one of their own, no matter what because they can't even understand the manifesto of any aspirant.

If the Arewa Institution manage to present a united front via a consensus candidate, Northern Governors may not be able to influence their electorate in favour of Jonathan even if they've promised to deliver their state to him. Forget Jega, the polls will be free & fair up North, because North will always vote for North, by default. No need to rig.

My brother u are very right. And if the North actually want power they should rally round a credible candidate that will be attractive to majority in the south. I personally dont give a kobo about where the President comes from but I cannot just stand the gap-toothed, blood-sucking Demon called IBB back in Aso-Rock. IBB has stolen so much that the CNN intervierws asked him if he was going to buy the election.

I have never been surprised by any of your previous comments. This one is not suprising as well. It shows the type of brain you have as well as the level of your intelligence. You lack civility. It is not bestowed on anyone irrespective of where one resides, it is acquired and unfortunately you've failed to acquire it.
I have simply posted a write-up by a national daily and the best you can come up with is this. Compare your post with those of others and you will realize you do not belong in this forum. You need a forum of "people in animal skin" like you.

According to the source, many
of the prominent people from
the South-West, whom President

the truth that the Yoruba “do

the position of president to the

These 2 highlighted fellows are the worst error Jonathan ever committed. If he loses, he will never stay within 1 km of this 2 mischievous entities.

And look at this Clark of a thing, an avowed hater of Igbos. All I have to tell you is that you are a BIG LOSER. I only pity Jonathan who might lose Igbo support due to Clark.

@ excanny

I happen to b one of the people that hate GEJ styles and uninspiring ways. But in Nigeria d thruth is dat u need both d bad and good people to win an election. And U and I know GEJ powers currently are enough to "Iwulise" PDP primary and general election in his favour. We ave seen OBJ doing it b/4. All he is doing now is to win as many supports as possible so dat his Govt wil b popular.

Once all these efforts fail my man, he doesnt need yor supports or votes again. I promise u he will win primary and go on to win the general election and of course yor votes would not b counted as usual.

My own is dat the blood-thirsty IBB should not come back!
