I think Nigerians are more clouded with their selfish desires that's why they are all in one church or the other asking God to do for them what they want instead of really worshiping God. Therefore these same people cannot see what they should be doing or what is required of them as citizens of a nation.
Finally, You will see that most of the so called church leaders are celebrating the independece more than anyone esle.
