No sir. You are wrong. The fact that a HIV patient is on ARV medication, does not mean his viral load is undetectable. It takes a while before this happens. In some people it could take several months or even years before this happens, after they start their treatment.

The patient will have to be highly disciplined in following a strict drug regimen, and would have to also show up for regular tests in the hospital, to monitor his CD4 count, etc.

So even while taking drugs, the HIV patient can still infect his non-HIV partner, if he does not take adequate precautions.

I have seen HIV patients and late to the hospital, and they still develop complications like TB and other things, simply because they presented late, or were not compliant with their drug regimen, or those ARV drugs had side effects that caused unforeseen severe reactions in their body. The doctors then conduct more tests, before changing their drug combination.

What I meant by “new” is the fact that part of her particular assignment is to administer HIV drugs...not all nurses administer drugs and most that do, do not administer HIV drugs, because their area of medicine or practice don’t see such kind of patients. Also not all doctors can prescribe HIV just like other specialty drugs as these drugs require training, followup and each doctor that prescribes them are limited in the quantities and number of patients...this is a means to control these types of drugs and to ensure that, only those who need them gets them.

Your use of the word steadily did not include a time frame. But not only that, it is strict adherence to the drug regimen over a period of several months or a couple of years, that could lead to reduction in the viral load.

Try to accept correction instead of getting defensive.

So many unemployable graduates around. Half baked or 'unbaked' graduates claiming to know it all when they are just empty. Not everything you see on Google is real or factual. There are a lot of gabbage and rubbish on Google. If you are a graduate and ever did project by urself, you would've known that Google is not an academic/scientific source. In my 6 yrs of training as a health worker, i was never taught that rubbish and neither did I read it in any book or academic material. I have been in practice for 11 years, 3 of those years were with GHAIN ( Global HIV Aids Initiative Nigeria). Mr. Google next time go to World Health Organization's (WHO's) website and read about health matters and be enlightened, instead of coming to public forum to disgrace yourself...
These are the likes that would go to Google and read that TB is caused by cockroaches and swallow it completely...ishhh....Nauseating!

At least I passed my JAMB and attended a federal university for 1st degree and a master's degree before proceeding to U.S for another master's. I came back and taught in a federal university for a while before leaving the academia to pursue another line of career. Not everyone òn Nairaland is a slowpoke like you, misinforming people about health matters that you know nothing about..If I were you, I would go and read about that rubbish you were quoting Google from a scientific source and be enlightened ....and not to further continue disgracing 'yourself'...You sound like one of those below average arts students that managed to make 2:2 from a road side college of education.

Hahahaha I laugh in French...you will suffer in that shit hole till you die....You don't know where I am based neither do you have an idea of what I do, Mr. Google. A slowpoke who is referring me to google says my education is a waste...How can a graduate be quoting Google to defend a scientific topic?.. and he is not ashamed of himself...isshh... My education has taken me to all the important places in the world that you can think of and it has been a rewarding experience; one of the reasons why I will not quote Google for anyone. I left Geneva in March (spent 2months there for a mitigation project with their confined spaces) and have since been in Belgium to solve another issue. From here, I am to proceed to Northridge, LA for another project. I am happy doing what I do and it is the education you called a waste that has afforded me the rare opportunity....I want to continue wasting in this manner.....
