One agency in Nigeria that is known to have failed and no one seems to bother about is the Nigerian Police Force, the recent decision by GEJ to buy more helicopters to me doesnt seem to be a solution to the NPF failure. Nigerian police now dont hide the fact they collect bribe i'm starting to doubt an increase in salary can do anything. Lets post ideas on how we can have an effective NPF with serving and protecting as their main aim

A solution i think is we begin a positive awareness of the public of what the police is to us, a psychological change by the public and the police will go a long way in rebuilding the NPF. An advert on TV showing the police polite to citizens, protecting the citizens, saying NO to bribe with a tag New NPF will go a long way towards the psychological change needed and most especially testing and training of our police and raising the standards.

Because it is obvious the police and the public have no clue what the police job is again!

Change their uniform to white without pockets,retire all the old crooks among them and military discipline should be enforced

pay them well that is the key to police revolution in NIGERIA

Tell them to line up in a death row, then have a civilian do the shooting.hg

I believe the first step toward improvement is rather simple (or at least, it should be); decentralized policing.

How about this kind of reform?

Beaf, I like that.

No be one day work be dis o. It requires patience, dedication and continuous improvement. In no particular order:

Make a plan for a 5 year change project

Put a steering committee or governing body or similar in place to effect these changes. It should be headed by a no-nonsense former armed forces person (someone like the late Idiagbon)

Retire all the stealing, sticky finger idiot oga's

Start making plans to educate those that are still in the system. Send them to conventional universities, poly's, colleges of education for short-courses along with civilians (so they can learn to mix with normal people) For those that do not have adequate degrees, make them attend night classes, training courses, finishing classes, etc etc

Begin to punish (very severely) those that mis-bahave (those that collect bribes, detain unlawfully)

Upgrade their living conditions, pay them well, give good benefits, health care etc.

. . . and many many more.

Most importantly, this should not be an isolated activity or event. The whole country needs to improve. The health sector,  education, corporate, political, financial and so on. The police cannot be the only institution to focus upon.
