Blue3k: in support of what you've said the office of the Attorney General and the Justice Minister should split then this role be handed to bare, by so doing the public office holders would face governance squarely. those uncharge of dissemination of judgement do it in totality. |

SEGLIZ: I agree with you. Let the minister of justice perform that task. Since he is an appointee of the executive and also a part of the justice system. Afterall the Attorney General has the powers of Nole prosequi. (The power to decline to prosecute, which is considered the power to give life. ) So he ought to wield similar power (of death). 2 Likes |

Well, as for me a Criminologist, the pattern of Punishments is suppose to tally with the structure and social life of the society where it is applied. Death roll I the best option for Nigeria looking at the precedence of terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape amongst others. You shouldn't send a man that killed 50+ people to jail. The main purpose of Punishment in the criminal justice system of to deter other intending criminals from engaging in to that same act. The more severe the punishment, the more laws are followed. 1 Like |

Death sentence is bad due to the mistake of executing an innocent person! Life sentence is better! Even in U.S. where they have all the tools to conduct thorough investigations, still get it wrong sometimes. Then compare that to Nigeria where investigations are mostly based on guess-work, hearsay and torture (one can admit guilt on what they didn't do, to stop being tortured), which are ineffective! 1 Like 1 Share |

Life sentence is scarier than Execution.
After Execution, it all ends. Life sentence is hope in a hopeless situatuon. |

Nothing will be sweeter than seeing heads of chronic offenders (like murderers , looters, etc) rolling on the street. Immediately they catch somebody that stole money close to half of the country's population the person's blood should be donated to ogun shrine and the carcass should be displayed for others with the mindset of stealing to see. |

OneKinGuy: even the religious book spelt it out. they can kill for political reason and embezzle/loot the state purse to red but to condemn the/a criminal the become a saint that can't even take the life of a mosquito or housefly. |

They should start with de-congestion of the Prisons then we can consider if Life sentence is an option. Also fast tracking of the legal processes, |

In4matic: I dont even think they should involve executive past performaning order. There's no need to duplicate orders. They can already appeal verdicts. The executive already hss pardoning powers if they want to intervene. That's why processes are slow. |
Re: Death Row: "Execution Or Life Sentence", Which should Nigeria Adopt " by CSTR2: 6:28pm On Sep 06, 2019 |
Nwaohafia1:Do you know the meaning of manslaughter? It is accidental. If you are driving on the express road, and a foolish pedestrian disobeys traffic rules and run across your car and get hit accidentally. If he dies in the process, you are guilty of manslaughter. So they should jail you for life? Manslaughter should carry a sentence of five years maximum with the possibility of parole but it has to been proven that it is manslaughter. Life sentence are for confirmed unrepentant murderers, rapists and terrorists, so that they won't be danger to the community ever again. 1 Like |
