For fayemi mind is only national assembly that is our problem ,even governors with their irrelevant special advicers we really need to cut down on cost of governance from the executive down to governors,I wonder y the self acclaimed Mr integrity is not saying anything on cutting down cost of governance

Only few men that are comfortable can use Santo to swear that you did not commit any type of fraud before they could afford that nice house..

Come out and swear on amadioha that it is your salary you saved that enabled you build up those halls, complexes and things..

Only few thousand.

Governance is the highest form of wastage and drainage of our resources... Cost of governance should be cut at all levels... Well spoken Mr. Fayemi!!!

Bi cameral legislature isn't the problem

They are just about 400+ people representing 200million

The problem is the nonsense and ridiculous money expended on them

The senate alone shares a significant part of the budget

And the whole millions of people are grappling for remnants

This is a future impossible tense grin Which Senate will pass the bill to scrap itself? That's like giving a gun to someone to shoot himself when he is at the peak of his life.

No it's better to do away with reps instead, there's equitable representation in the Senate... 3 per state but the reps membership is skewed to favour some states /zones against others

They should scrap the Senate, scrap the HOR, scrap the monarchy institutions, scrap the redundant Ministries and merge duplicated agencies like ICPC, EFCC etc. 85% Budget for recurrent expenditure will be saved, that's about over N3 trillion naira. This is the best path to real development, instead of the FG looking for more ways to tax Nigerian citizens to death. Otherwise, this country will keep going in circles and going nowhere!

Also, what are we even doing with 35 Governors? More than half of whom are practically non-performing and are just instruments of mass corruption and stealing. 4 governors is ok, one for each region, North, West, South, East. Commissioners should be scraped too. We just need 1 president, 4 governors, 6 ministers (Energy, Economy, Technology, Security, Agriculture, Education), and 144 LGAs (4 for each state). Then government recurrent expenditure can be less than a billion per year, then the remaining N4 trillion plus that would have gone to waste can be transferred into meaningful development and manufacturing. And watch how Nigeria will become another China within 20 years.
Very apt. We ideally need 4VPs representing the 4 regions and about 12 state governors. The model under Gowon. All these mushroom states are avenue to fliter away our resources. I agree with 144 LGAs and fewer ministers. We are imitating USA, a country with twice or more than our population. With the strongest economy and resources to keep that system. It is high time we begin to manage our resources. On senate and HOR, I subscribe to eliminating the HOR and have just 36 senators. Our political leaders' overheads is a serious drain on our development. Imagine how many rail infrastructure can be built with salaries and allowances of the NASS in a year.

Nigerians never need that Senate.
Fayemi may become the president now, and still not scrap it.
Tinubu had mentioned before that Senate should be scrapped.

I support what he said, but it has to cut across all strata of government institutions, including the presidency who has too many advisers on pay roll. Again if this government is insisting and forcing us to eat the locally grown rice which to me is very wrong mainly because the quality of that rice is not up to per with what obtains internationally. If they must force us then they should also drive a made in Nigeria car starting from the presidency to governor's and senators. Innoson jeeps are good enough those in government should lead by example. And stop blabbing. The local rice is absolute rubbish if in doubt pls use it to cook jollof rice and see how bad it turns out. I can bet my top dollar Mr president does not eat the locally produced rice.

You have point, but the aspect of having 4 state governors is ridiculous... How can 4 governors manage 36 states? It's not feasible! Even Advanced countries like USA actually have 50 states with 50 governors. Imagine if they had only five governors?
Re: Fayemi: We Can Do Away With Senate by Awesome01(m): 11:37pm On Oct 09, 2019
And which arm of the government do you suppose will pass that bill into law according to our 1999 constitution?

You expect the senate to pass a bill scrapping it from existence? You go wait tyre.
Re: Fayemi: We Can Do Away With Senate by EldonCash247: 11:42pm On Oct 09, 2019
Would that stop him from contesting for same Senate which he advocates for it to be scraped after his 4yrs in office as Governor of Ekiti. Good suggestion though,

His submission may not work. I would rather suggest regional government; where we have 1 president, 6 vice-presidents for our geopolitical zones I.e. 6 regions, each region with its HOR, Governors for each state in the regions reporting to their respective VPs, then L.G. chairmen.

Having 6 regions will bring about competition resulting in speedy development.

Each region will manage its resources, contributing about 10% to the centre.

Each region can enact laws which is applicable to its zone.

True talk by Fayemi.
I have always advocated scrapping of one of the house of the National Assembly, Senegal did so when they found out they could not support a bi-cameral legislature.
Also, the executive arm should consider the reduction of cost of running the Government, jumbo salaries, allowances, feeding allowances etc should be cut down so as to have funds to meet the needs of the people.
