Everybody knows that.

We can also do away with two-thirds of the House of Assembly.

We can do away with 24 states and go back to 12 states of Nigeria.

We can do away with so many unprofitable offices and save money and stop behaving like a rich country. UK Prime Minister goes around with entourage of 2 cars, Nigerian counterpart goes out with 20 times that number!

Instead of killing the economy with your new TAX budget 2020, you should urgently do away with a lot of things and a lot of unprofitable offices.

Dont wait until BBC exposes your wasteful living.

This was exactly what i said when i head of those thives in senate planning to tax us to death. I rather suggested reducing the cost of governance. By this the highest monthly salaries of senators shouldn't exceed 500k instead of millions they go home with every month, while that of the president should be 1M naira atmost. This will checkmate the numbers of death recorded during elections as people will no more see politics as a way of getting rich quickly, thereby killing people to get there. This will lead to people with the mindset to lead going into politics.

That's NOT what Okorocha said (doubtful he's that smart)...
Rather, Okorocha wants ONE Senator per state, which would be a DISASTER (he probably thinks it'll be him).

It is a no brainer, and the House of Representatives should spend more time in their respective states, and not Abuja.

Why? We already State Assemblies...
We need ONLY the House of Reps at the NASS (after a credible Census). Dump the Senate.

They should scrap the Senate, scrap the HOR, scrap the monarchy institutions, scrap the redundant Ministries and merge duplicated agencies like ICPC, EFCC etc. 85% Budget for recurrent expenditure will be saved, that's about over N3 trillion naira. This is the best path to real development, instead of the FG looking for more ways to tax Nigerian citizens to death. Otherwise, this country will keep going in circles and going nowhere!

Also, what are we even doing with 35 Governors? More than half of whom are practically non-performing and are just instruments of mass corruption and stealing. 4 governors is ok, one for each region, North, West, South, East. Commissioners should be scraped too. We just need 1 president, 4 governors, 6 ministers (Energy, Economy, Technology, Security, Agriculture, Education), and 144 LGAs (4 for each state). Then government recurrent expenditure can be less than a billion per year, then the remaining N4 trillion plus that would have gone to waste can be transferred into meaningful development and manufacturing. And watch how Nigeria will become another China within 20 years.

They should not be scrapped, but government should NOT financially support them...
Let each community (who claim to be proud of their 'culture') pick up the bills themselves.

We also need an elected legislature at the federal level...
That's the essential difference between REPRESENTATIVE government and dictatorships.

His submission may not work. I would rather suggest regional government; where we have 1 president, 6 vice-presidents for our geopolitical zones I.e. 6 regions, each region with its HOR, Governors for each state in the regions reporting to their respective VPs, then L.G. chairmen.

Having 6 regions will bring about competition resulting in speedy development.

Each region will manage its resources, contributing about 10% to the centre.

Each region can enact laws which is applicable to its zone.

You don't need 6 "vice-presidents" who are effectively regional Premiers...
A Vice-President (like the President) should have the ENTIRE nation as his/her primary constituency.

If we want to return to regional governments...
Then scrap the states, create regions with fiscal independence, and if a state wants states it can create and pay for them itself.

Re: Fayemi: We Can Do Away With Senate by EagleNest(m): 6:16am On Oct 10, 2019
Good idea but the best is to fully restructure Nigeria to functional regions or federation units and decentralise the power at the centre. Also decentralise the police force. Reduce the number of political parties.

Fayemi-is this a sincere opinion or political talk?
Yes-agreed Nigeria need a unicameral legislative body.

However, not only that, these governors should also drastically cut down their cost of governance from their end by reducing the number of aides, unnecessary budget spending, security votes etc.
which kind sincere wen he couldn't convincingly talk about security votes dey receive dat goes unaccounted for

I totally agreed that we can do away with senators and Governors and have local government heads while we have regional governor it will lead to more unity, judicious utilisation of funds better infrastructure and a whole lot more

How do The Senate and The Congress of The US work together and have been for more than two Centuries?
Let us fully adopt 100 percent The American Constitution by chiselling out the odds in ours and making everything even with the one we all know has been free of wranglings for more than 200 years.
We have experimented since 1960 and our Military boys have outplayed us always. The most annoying is our current situation where by Buhari, Buraitai and some Fulanis around them are determined to sell The South as Slaves to Niger Republic while our NASS and The Judiciary are hopelessly dummy-looking-on is deadly.

To Adapt The US Constitution 100 percent now is The smartest course of action to get Nigeria out of her present predicament. Nigeria is heading for Anarchy. Buhari and Buraitai will be Champions.

cc: Akintoye, AFENIFERE, Ohaneze, Falana, MASSOB, OPC, Okorocha, Gbajabiamila, etc.
Above please don't say I didn't warn you all. Buhari is acting a Script from somewhere.

The only sensble thing he said was about the need for smaller government, and everyone knows the senators won't go without a fight. Because afterall his pontifications, he also defended the loophole in the system that delivers unaudited funds into his own pocket. Very clever man.

If we are moving toward an ideal system, why won't he talk about job creation and economic restructuring so that citizens would be productive and stay away from ugly vices like kidnapping & robbery? Ten years ago kidnapping-for-ransome was unheard of in this country, but it has become an epidemic after four years of Buhari's mismanagement completely ruined the economy. Fayemi is quick to give reasons why 'security vote' cannot be audited. OK you buy uniforms, vehicles, insurance for police officers, are those unreceipted expenses too?

Our leaders are just simply thieves and dishonest men, Fayemi included. That is the root of their character: a fundamental lack of decency or the concept of ethical behaviour.

We should rather do away with the HOR
Senate has equal representation by States
HoR where kano has 44 members and Bayelsa 8.
That won't be fairness as its not equitably shared.
So, no justice in your submission Sir

We also need to reduce the number of states... Nigeria doesn’t need 36 states and governors.
