I notice igbo don't name their children ojukwu. There must be a reason for that.
there are many people I know with that name. Even the judge that reduced sowores bail is bearing ojukwu. Most of that name are usually surnames.

You should be the one to receive sense. Imagine i read the invitation and i sense that the bride family is late.probably emeka ojukwu age mates. I'm talking about present day not old age.

You are not making sense because there are millions of Emeka's in Igboland named after the great man since after the civil war.
Ojukwu is a family name just like nobody will name his son Okonkwo in todays igboland.

Some names are family oriented,if you are ignorant of that. Thank you

Is it only me or it’s just like that. Why is that when I think 30 years ago I think of the 70s instead of 1990.

Point of correction it's 1994........ Not 1989.

I agree with you, though this depends on some villages. Where I come from, there is what we call namesake. People name their kids after a family member or after a friend. My name is Ojukwu, and most times, people always think it is my surname.

There are plenty of people named Ojukwu, I even schooled with one. And plenty of people are named Chukwuemeka after him. Try again.

That is because Ojukwu is a surname, not a first name, just like Awolowo, Akintola, Obasanjo,

Christianity has taken over most of our culture. It has nothing to do with the name Ojukwu. All the ancient names are gradually dying. Parents do not name their kids names like Okeke, okorie any longer. Again Ojukwu was his last name or simply his surname. His first name is Chukwuemeka. People are trying to balance culture and Christianity. That's why names with Chi or Chukwu is mostly used these days instead of the old tribal names. Uche is actually Uchechi or Uchechukwu.
Moreover, this is happening all over Nigeria and the world in general. I have never seen a Yoruba man having Awolowo as his first name. Can you explain why?
I have a Chinese friend called Frank and an Indian called John. English and Christianity are doing wonders.
