O boy! cry Fools' voices are indeed always louder. See how people market their ignorance on the first page. The past generation really bleeped up by failing to relay history as they ought to.

N7,000 then was like N700,000,000, a good car then was sold for N60.00. the son should shut up. Going by his statement, his father died very rich.

Have you apologized to Asaba and Anioma people on behalf of your father for the grievous massacre he inflicted on them during the civil war, it was part of the reasons for removing history from our school curriculum. cool
Civil war was during Gowon era, not Muritala. Learn History pls.

A dollar was N0.75, meaning N7,000 was equal to $9,333.33. Convert back to naira using present exchange rate of one dollar to N360, it is equivalent to N3,360,000. By today's value a president was worth 3.37 million naira.

Compare with trillions owned by each of dem IBB, TY, Atiku, Obj and even Jona wey been no get shoe.

Have you ever read Obj's book where he gave personal account of his role as a war commander during the civil war?

The N7,000 he left in his account before his demise was equivalent to about $5000

Those who removed History from Primary School curriculum are doing a great disservice to this country. I believe, some of the commentators here were not born when MM was the head of state and thus could not believe this assertion. The great danger to this nation is that, a larger percentage of the younger ones have lived to see Corruption and could not believe the life lived by people like Muritala Muhammed, Tunde Idiagbon, Aminu Kano, Tafawa Balewa, Azikiwe, Awolowo e.t.c

That was no small money!
It's like N7,000,000. in today's money. .

3 to N4,000 could buy a brand new
car.

The money could also be exchanged
for $14,000.

Word has it that he broke and carted away all the money from the central bank when Asaba fell during the civil war; in addition it is alleged he also had many properties in Kano (along Galadima Rd) being fronted for him.
Furthermore, Kano State government had built a beautiful house for his family (after his death) along Ahmadu Bello way, which they apparently don't even need because it had since remained empty and unused till date - indicating their relative high degree of affluence.

None of these young boys above me were not born at the time of Murtala Mohammed. Your mamas were still little and shy young girls at that time. Sic boys! Murtala was a good man and a beacon of hope for the country until his demise.

The death of Murtala as the beginning of Nigeria's downfall.

how about all his accounts in foreign banks OR accounts under aliases OR money stashed under wife/children/family's name etc....?!

The children of this greedy generation will never understand this. Murtala Mohammed declared everything he had and dedicated his life to the country you now call zoo.

Just listen to yourself, a President who had been a General in the army and a federal minister for years left money that could buy one Peugeot 504 car. Don’t you hear of a Ministers and State Governors Of later days laundering millions of $$$s?

Do you know how much was #7000 for someone to have in 1976?
When a Naira was about $2.7. Where did he see that money as at that time?
He needs to be probed posthumously.
A general salary then was about #80.
Buhari must collect back our money.

Admittedly, it was BEFORE my time, but...

The same Murtala reportedly looted a bank in the Midwest...
And was in charge of the $1billion (or $2b) ITT scam of a contract?!
