For folks like you, it has to be about tribe and nothing else. Purge yourself of bigotry and stop viewing every news through the tribal lens.

There is nothing in the entire report to suggest that the man in question is not the most senior director. I was even expecting the union to come up with the name of the most senior director and justify their claim with the date of appointment as a director but instead, they offered no explanation and backed it up with an empty threat of not guaranteeing industrial harmony.

Can't you read? He isn't even a director. A contract staff brought by Fowler as his Special Assistant. That smacks of tribalism to me.

Can you explain your concept of contract staff; I thought every staff of any organisation are on a contract anyway.

Did you mean to say temporary or casual staff?

Who ever he handedover to doesn't matter. What if the most senior Director can't do the job?

There is what is termed 'permanent' staff. Those that are career staff and are expected to work long term and retire at the organization. On the other hand, a contract staff is brought in on a temporary basis, usually short term and is expected to leave at the end of the contract. The contract can also be renewed, depending on the terms of the contract.
In a way everyone is on a contract, but when we say 'contract staff' in Nigeria, people understand what we are talking about.

“Mr Abiodun Aina in the first instance does not have the basic qualifications to be employed into the Service. Secondly, his appointment to the position of Coordinating Director was against the provision of Section 2.19 of the FIRS Human Resource Policies and Processes.”

He is a director. That he was initially a special assistant to the former chairman doesn’t mean he cannot be employed as a director. If the union did not put up a fight during the recruitment process, why are they talking nonsense? As at the time of handing over yesterday, he is the most senior director in the office and as a result, he should act pending the confirmation of the chairman designate.

If the union did not put up a fight during the recruitment process, why are they talking nonsense? As at the time of handing over yesterday, he is the most senior director in the office and as a result, he should act pending the confirmation of the chairman designate.

The section states that “Appointment to the post of the Coordinating Director shall be made by the board on the recommendations of the executive chairman. The appointment shall be open to all confirmed directors of the Service and it shall be competitive based on experience, competence and seniority.”

The union also stated that Aina was never a director in the Service, adding that he was a Senior Special Assistant to Fowler
.
You cannot be a coordinating director in the first place if you were never a director. That makes the position of a coordinating director null and void. It is the tribalism we are talking about, not following due process, just using tribal sentiments and nepotism to appoint people. In the Civil Service, they are career officers that qualify for that position which Fowler gave to his Yoruba brother. Therefore, the union is in order. He should handover to duly qualified directors in the service and not an impostor. That is why Nigeria stinks.

When you stop viewing things from the lens of tribalism, you will see clearly. He was appointed a director and subsequently appointed a coordinating director. If you understand how civil service works (minus your obvious hatred for Yorubas), you won’t have any problem understanding what really happened.

When politicians are appointed to head MDAS, they come with their aides as special assistants. Some of these aides are later converted to career civil servant on various grade levels and allowed to grow in service to the peak of the agency. It is not a big deal.

If Aina’s appointment as a career staff of FIRS didn’t follow due process, the union should have protested and have the appointment reversed a long time ago. Since the man has been working and growing in the system, and he’s even the most senior director in the agency’s nominal roll, there is nothing anybody can do about it. He will act until the substantive chairman takes over. He is a staff of FIRS and not an imposter.
