Native Administration was the instrument of authority adopted by Colonial Government to govern the regions of Nigeria.

In Western Nigeria Oba is the head of a Native Authority in his direct domain. Its laws were effected through Native and Custom laws.

There was something called Native Court System. This administrative arm was established by Ordinance No 44 of 1933 under Colonial Govt to give Native law jurisdictional power.

The power of the Court extended over civil and criminal cases. Since it needed to enforce law, it needed a policing unit. The unit was called Native Authority Police Force.

Ake, Owu, Gbagura, Oke Ona, Abeokuta...these were towns, in 1939, under the Native Authority of Alake of Egbaland.

The period in contention is 1940.

Would an Iboman, Onyejekwe be recruited by Abeokuta Native Authority which was presided by Alake, to police Egba and Owuland?

This question is the first troubleshooter on the claim that Obasanjo was fathered in 1940 by an Igbo police officer posted to Owuland.

Typical low IQ, hate filled afonja. For you to ask this is actually saying Yorubas are tribalistic. Go and check the foremost professors and heads of departments at top Yoruba universities, you will be shocked their were Igbos. This was when white people ran the Human Resources of Nigeria and did the recruitment themselves based on merit: some how Igbos dominated.

The OP is correct.

During the 1940s, police men were recruited locally by the Native Authority (NA)Administration from among the natives.

Maybe rank and file were recruited locally but there was a Southern Nigeria Police and senior officers like Onyejekwe were deployed all over the south. Not that I care for this Obasanjo story but it's important not to distort history

He said Native Authority and you countered him with Southern Nigeria Police Force.

You are obviously uneducated about Native Administration or you wouldnt have responded with that.

You need to be educated on what Native Authority was.

Lol. The police force was divided between southern and northern police. I don't run from knowledge so feel free to educate me on the Native Authority. I have heard of non-yoruba (southerner) officers in yoruba land in that period.

I can see you’ve been trying to mention me as YorubaHero in some couple threads. I won’t get that mentions coz you’re misspelling the username .

It’s Yorubahero12. However I trust in metaphysical intellect and I’m sure he’s gonna do justice to this thread.

lols ..........when OBJ and his boys were playing ethnic politics with Tinubu around 2003 especially when Bode George went to town with some stupid tales of where certain persons' father came from, something had to be fabricated to insult OBJ and his goons too. And it did work.

The so-called authority of Alake of Egbaland ended in 1861 when British took over Lagos and its environs. Native Authority Police Force is an indirect rule or colonial tool which was answerable to DC (District Officer). In some places they were call court man (CourtyMa). When my father was a district councilor, he has orderly almost dressed like the police but were in kaki upon kaki unlike the Nigerian police that dressed in light blue upon kaki.
