Gov. Sanwo-Olu Presents ₦40 Million Capital Grant To 2000 Beneficiaries by nwekeugochukwu: 6:44am On Jan 02, 2020
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented the sum of N40 million grant as start up capital for businesses to assist 2, 000 residents, mainly youths and women

The presentation was made in a ceremony organised by Office of the Civic Engagement, as part of activities for the “Civic Week, “ held at LTV Ground, Agindigbi, Ikeja.

In the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the grant was mainly to assist the beneficiaries who are entrepreneurs to improve the status of their businesses towards earning more profits and making them self reliant.

Princess Aderemi Adebowale, Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, also explained that the grant was part of the activities lined up for this year Civic Week designed by the Lagos State government through her office to engage residents, alongside the ‘Sanwo-Olu Cares’ initiative, a program to cater for the less-privileged.

She said: “Beneficiaries of the social welfare inclusive initiative would be encouraged to invest 50 per cent of the grant received in a small-scale business. The office of Civic Engagement has partnered with some companies to assist our citizens to actualize these goals by planning and monitoring the growth of their small-scale business.” Adebowale added.

She said that the event also serves as a means of inculcating social values in children and youths.

She said, “We aim at building a people-centered Lagos by adopting a variety of engaging activities as a channel to inspire individuals to be active participants in the process of nation-building. Engaging citizens remains our ultimate goal. We can only improve Lagos through our collective effort.”

The selected beneficiaries, received the sum of N20,000 each from the State Government to help them expand their business.

This is a working governor. Always in the news for making things happen. So, unlike social media governor who makes only noise and nothing can be said about his achievement except populist agenda.
Modified : To those of you quoting me. I no get your time o. And for those who said 20k. No amount is too small for serious individuals who have nothing to start with. There are some market women around my area who are doing well in their petty trading courtesy of trader's moni 10k grant. The fact that the amount you spend on a lunch is more than that is not the point. But ability to make the best use of little available resources. The big amount of money to you is chicken change to some and vice versa. Such is life because fingers are not equal. Good morning.

Very dissapointing. 20k per individual to start up a business. It can't even set up a bukka. Maybe Lags needs 2000 more shoe-shiners.

Lagos State's 2020 budget is a little over #1trn, while the whole country's 2020 budget stands at #10trn. Being a governor in Lagos is like being the president of countries like " Chad, Niger, Togo, Benin, even Ghana, oh I almost forgot Liberia.
Too much money to loot- course they won't spend 1/10th of that money on what it's meant for.

Those of you saying he did well, do you people even know how much an individual is to receive? 40,000,000 divide by 2,000 people. That gives a person 20k each. Wetin 20k wan reach person start for Lagos abi na sachet water biz for middle of traffic? We should stop celebrating nonsense please because it gives all this thieves of a leader more arrogance and wickedness. It would have been better if he gave only 50 persons each. That’s 800k per individual. At least with that some can set up something small .
