By God's grace.
But God is currently being selfish with his grace or else he wouldnt have taken the life of an innocent young man.
You still need our help.

Ileke?

And the mother did not abandon the boy, she left him with the father and possibly unaware that the father is now dead. Yeah, she should have looked back, but then, who knows what issues/challenges she is facing now

@topic

hoping that a concrete step will be put in place to help the boy. . .

Without a motherly care? When will women realize that a child needs affection from both his/her parent?
No sensible mother would leave her young child behind, esp in that kind of situation. And she separated two siblings.

Anywaz, that is not what is important here. I would prefer it if they track the child back to his father's house. Not to that woman.

some situations cannot just be painted in black or white. We dont know what transpired btw her and the husband b4 she left

we also have no idea what options were available for her when she left. It easier to accommodate/assist a woman with a kid than one with 2 kids

many times in situations of hardship $ poverty people only have to choose btw the devil and the deep blue see. Dont judge her yet till you have her story.

When you guys & gal (dapsee & Ileke-Idi) are through with your exchange of words and fights, just let us know how we can help. I'm willing to assist once we establish how to go about it.
Dapsee, I'll be glad if you can give a progress report on the 234next angle. A word of advice for you, Ileke-Idi is only pulling your legs, you shouldn't let her sarcasm needle you that much. I laughed off every single exchanged between the two of you.

@ Ileke-idi

You were out of order; there was no need to question his motive.

Dapsseee and DapoBear
I, equally, would like to assit in anyway I can; you can send an email to me (email address is in my profile) if you make some kind of headway.

Poor boy, fending for himself at 4 years of age. Nigerian leaders will surely answer to their maker one day.
Re: The Shanty Boy by Nobody: 12:39am On Dec 10, 2010
Yes, there was a great need.

In a time when yahoo yahoo and scamming is rampant, its only right to question. Esp with that email add.

Ileke did the right thing
In this age of e-419, you have to doubt everything, and never stop asking questions

All the guy needed to do was to prove that he was genuine, which he failed to do.

I still have my reservations regarding his motives. I actually think he is out to exploit the situation for his own material gain.

So leave Ileke alone, She did the right thoing.

No response from the woman. WTF is the point of writing the article if you don't respond to attempts to contact you?

She is a Journalist, not a charity worker.

As for your other question: the point of writing the article is to sell the paper so that she can get paid, not to be hit on by some random dude on the internet.
Re: The Shanty Boy by Beaf: 8:31am On Dec 10, 2010
This is a sad story. The boy needs to be adopted by loving parents, here is a kid without parents while there are several parents dreaming for a child to love.

The person to contact to save this kid is, Ishola Musbua, the Chairman of the Otto/Ilogbo Community Development Association. If we are to organise something, it must come through this man. Does any of us live within easy distance of Ebutte Meta or regularly use 3rd Mainland Bridge? I you are that person and have a large heart, please seek out Mr. Ishola Musbua, it should be a fairly easy task.

If there is anybody with experience of childcare (where is NL's angel Aisha2?), they should please give advice on the next steps to take.
Re: The Shanty Boy by Nobody: 1:44pm On Dec 10, 2010
So sorry, was away from my computer throughout yesterday. Contrary to popular and sometimes uninformed belief, there are well run orphanages throughout Nigeria. They may not have first class facilities but so many Nigerians put thier heart, mind and llive to support children. The question is identifying State approved orphanages in the state. He lives in kwara which is a bit tricky for me but i will talk the the FCT social welfare secretariate to get in touch with their collgues from Kwara. if i could get in touch with the reporter, i would have adviced that she get the community leaders to take the boy to the social welfare office in the state. For a lot of people here who assume that there are no social services anywhere in Nigeria, Please take out time to visit the social welfare office in ur various states, talk to the welfare officers, let them take u round d orphanages approved by the state, and possibly make a monthly commitment to support orphanages, am sure if you spend a day doing that you will appreciate the amount of work social workers do in Nigeria with the limited funds we get from the state and the funds we source for. Meanwhile I will try my best to get in touch with Kwara to see if they could go pick up the boy.
Re: The Shanty Boy by Nobody: 1:51pm On Dec 10, 2010
Sorry, dont know where i saw kwara. Its lagos makes it easier, I have a contact in the welfare office, however i will need to to get a more precise address to find the boy.
I have gotten in touch with Lagos, they asked me to call back on monday with more information.
On a similar note, I would most respectfully like to know what Mo Abdu did with the money theu raised from the fundraising concert for street kids she hosted about a year ago, Lagos State Government fully supported and endorsed the project, a home was supposed to be built for the children on the street. 2 Years later no home nothing, Lagos State Government tried to get information but she shut them out and has maintained an unhealthy silenece on the issue. Madam Mo, Kiloshele? Where the home now? ABi where the money?
Re: The Shanty Boy by mustafar1: 2:24pm On Dec 10, 2010
the money got kidnapped from Mo Abudu.

@ aisha
Weldone and kudos to you, keep us posted on your progress.
@ All
I think we all need to prepared for the long haul, sending something will not help the innocent boy, placing him in a nurturing and loving environment is what's needed and the long term commitment of whoever chooses to be involved.

That was a tough article to get through.  I knew there'd be a picture of the little boy at the end and I steeled myself for it, to no avail.  Hard.

dappssee:

I'm thinking of paying his school fees and clothes. I need someone that can help trace his mother and someone for his feeding.

I'll contact 234Next. Don't even have an idea where that slum is

Did you make any progress with this?  I hope you weren't dissuaded from assisting however you can.  The boy deserves it.  And I'm sure thousands more are suffering, but when you see a personal story it's hard not to be moved.  I myself will ask my people in Lagos what they've heard about this little boy and his current situation.  Best wishes for this boy and everyone concerned sbout him.
