Tinubu Blasts Akala Says, You’re Playing Amala Politics ! by wales(m): 6:43am On Dec 14, 2010
Former Lagos State governor, Bola-Ahmed Tinubu on Monday replied the Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala on the battle for Oyo State governorship seat in 2011, urging him to shun amala politics and embrace developmental politics.
Fielding questions from Aviation Correspondents at the presidential lounge of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, Tinubu said the Akala-led administration had only succeeded in taking the state several years backward. He stressed that the Action Congress of Nigeria was ready to sweep the votes and occupy all elected positions both in Oyo and Ogun states in 2011.

Tinubu stated that infrastructural and economic development in the state have visibly halted in the state since the inception of Akala’s administration.

He stated that the ACN had used Lagos to demonstrate its willingness and capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry
“We are using ACN to really show our capacity and commitment in terms of economic and political development to the various states including Oyo, Ogun and many other states across the country. Ever since the Akala-type of politics came in, the entire Oyo State had been retrogressing, that is the truth. They had brought wanton destruction to the spirit of our people, they had never never had a focus.”

Continuing, he said: “everything that we experienced since my childhood is the fact that Oyo had come up with the first in everything like the Liberty Stadium, it was the first in Africa then, Western Nigerian Television Service (WNTVS), was the first in Yorubaland and in Africa at that particular time, the University of Ibadan was internationally accredited and was a luxury to the University of Ife. The infrastructure, the environment and the serenity around Ibadan then, was one of the best in our country.”

He said Akala’s administration had eroded the progressive foundations laid down by Lam Adesina and other founding fathers of the state adding “ If you look at it since 1999, the foundation laid by Lam Adesina, it was a progressive foundation. Then look at it since year 2003, are you not happy coming to Lagos? Are you happy getting to Ibadan? Tinubu asked.
And see how filthy, how dirty and how unkempt the state of infrastructure there is in complete disintegration. Can you keep that government any longer? Not even pipe borne water, not even the hospital is developed. We are talking about developmental programme in politics, we are not talking amala politics of Akala.”
