once it concerns doctors all Nigerians will suddenly be united against. Medical training has little to do with teacher-student-chalkboard/pen system. It is very real. It is a slap on our cheeks to ask a specialist with hands-on experience in his field to go for a pencil and biro program just to become a consultant. The residency program is damn stressful and has been producing dependable doctors since time immemorial. The NUC surely need something else to occupy themselves with. MDCAN should not budge. It's all about politics. Residency programme is more knowledge-driven than the Ph.D programme. Consultants have more more knowledge even in research than the so-called Ph.D holders.

Residency programme is way superior to PhD when observed closely. It encompasses clinical practice, teaching practice (Residents teach Medical students and other residents), Administrative work, numerous conferences, seminars and workshops, exams etc...

Nigeria has many successful medics, excellent researchers cited in international research journals.. How many of them have PhDs? Few.
Why do most of them not have?
It's not compulsory.. Period.
