Former vice president and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has alerted Nigerians to President Goodluck Jonathan’s alleged heightening desperation of making his political rivals the scapegoats of the latest bombing incidents in Jos and Abuja.

A statement in Abuja by his Campaign Organisation in Abuja yesterday accused the president of inciting the public against them through the administration’s paid agents to link Atiku’s recent comments to the latest bomb blasts.
According to the statement, newspaper adverts by the president’s agents were already making insinuations of Atiku’s alleged connection with the violent incidents.

While condemning violence in any form, however, the former vice president observed that President Jonathan was taking advantage of national grief to hang the responsibility for the terrorist incidents on the necks of main political rivals such as Atiku.

“It is unhelpful neither to the security agencies nor for national security for President Jonathan to jump the gun of investigations and seek to make political gains out of an uncomfortable incident that have caused grief to many Nigerians,” the stated added.

The statement declared that any president who exploits the bomb incidents to incite public hatred against his opponents with the purpose of framing them up was as guilty as the yet-to-be identified bombers.
“In a moment of national crisis, President Goodluck Jonathan must demonstrate sobriety and cool-headed posture rather than losing his head to impetuous emotions.
“The President should allow security agents to carry out intensive investigations instead of using the incident to frame up political opponents.”

whom he perceives as stumbling blocks to his ambition. The President’s tacit approval of linking his opponents to the bombs is dangerous politics. The President cannot surpass Atiku’s commitment to national security. Such wicked insinuations, if not stopped, can complicate the efforts to identify the bombers,” the statement maintained.
According to the statement, bomb blasts are a national tragedy and every concerned Nigerian, including those in government, have a responsibility to apprehend the wicked and ungodly culprits.

GEJ has proven to be unfit for the presidency. A president that absolved MEND 24 hrs after MEND claims responsibility for the first bombings is an unfit president.

If some peopel are trying to link it with Atiku without any arrests being made is another own goal for GEJ. I really think those adviser of GEJ dont like him are deliberately making a mockery of his intelligence.

America doesn't need to spy on Nigeria anymore. The information that the FBI will gather and use for there investigation will strip Nigeria naked. I thought Nigeria is supposed to be a soverign country.

How can Nigerian be a Sovereign Nation when we have a clueless leader, who's only idea about the bombings is for Nigerians to kneel down and pray that the perpetrators come out openly to confess their sins! Abeg leave story o!

I am begining to suspect gej as the man behind those bombings in order to frame up his opposition and score cheap points. At first, it was 1st october bombing and he linked it with ibb who was his strongest opponent. Some arrest were made but since ibb stepped aside we heard nothing about the case. Now it is xmas and new year bombing and he is trying to link it to atiku (why not ibb). I think gej may be the demon nigeria needs to pray against. Who knows after he eventually wins the pdp primaries (which may be impossible), he will detonate another bomb in order to frame up his then strongest opponent (buhari, ribadu). Na wa oh.

GEJ is one big let down, which automatically equates to business as usual for him and the corrupt elites a man who was part of a government that depleted every available reserve in an attempt to remain president.

At the start of the current presidential term the  Excess crude account held $20 billion and before Dec 2010 the balance was $1.3 billion  and by the end of Dec $1 billion was shared by the three tier government.

If anybody is guilty of murder it is GEJ.

WAs he wrong for stating the obvious fact that the level of insecurity under GEJ is at an unprecedented level in recent times. Nigeria as a country has never experienced terrorist bombings, terrorist bombiongs started in GEJ´s home state of Bayelsa last year, MEND attacked Abuja GEJ absolved MEND and tried to link IBB, kidnappings every here and there .

A president that says publicly that the nation should pray for terrorists to confess their action is not just a fool but a celeberated fool of unrivalled standing.

Everyday Dumb GEJ and his equally dumb wife  continue to embarrass our beloved country of many intellectuals. Inviting the FBI to Nigeria is his biggest mistake as wikileaks have already shown the US level of spying in Nigeria, who except a dumb person would now invite the US 24 hrs after a bombing without first gathering your own evidence as a country. The FBI and CIA are not supermen and they still have bin laden at large. GEJ is about to mortgage Nigeria security to the US who are only after their own interest.

I am neither for Atiku nor GEJ but common sense demands that an elderly man should watch his utterances. Atiku has continually been making reckless statements and if GEJ uses that against him, then he asked for it.

I think as a statesman, people should guard their utterances. Buhari is a candidate in the Presidential race, he's not been making reckless statements now. I think Atiku should be guided accordingly

I would prefer Buhari as president of Nigeria but have you read the leaked election strategy of GEJ you would realise why Atiku keeps attacking him.

I guess Atiku may b the prime suspect in this following his unguarded statements b4 the blast.
Hes not the only one in the presidential race but hes the empty barrel that makes the loudest noise.

Put Atiku @ the hem of affairs and same thing will happen and he wont be able to do anything about it. Nigeria is a failed state no matter who is at the top, we must have to rebuild this country and re-orientate our people. the kinda politics we play in this country is so dirty to be called one, blackmail after blackmail, who is perfect, look at the advert on tv asking Atiku what he wants in PDP? The truth is what does he want in PDP? He formed a party that won elections both in state and federal levels, why wont he believe in his course and contest the election under his party and let Nigerians decide who we want as our leader?

people often forget that it was Johnathan's man that said
there is no vacancy in Aso Rock

The issue then is why are we buying DDC machines and giving N87b to INEC if there is no vacancy

Remember that Gbago is indirectly saying there is no vacancy in Abidjan govt house

This Atiku man has a very big problem, his desperation will soon make him start hunting for Monkeys from the jungle to come and vote for him to be a president by hook or by crook. He has tried by making sure he registered paid agents here on nairaland to be his PR,but forget no amount of PR can get the leopard to change its Skin.He said Jonathan can not and should not contest because there is a so called zoning agreement, and out of desperation aksed jonathan for a debate( Debate on what Atiku? debate on Zoning?) The witch cried at night and the baby died in the morning, who does not know it is the Witch that killed the baby.He threatened violence and we are getting it in full,it would only take his arrest and interogation for him to ezonerate himself from this bombings. He should learn how to keep his foul mouth shut, not coming out to make noise to give the impression that he is a good politician.Modern day politics is about strategy and not noise making. It will take an Elephant to pass through the eye of a needle than for Atiku to be a president of this country

A fool at 40 is a fool forever. . . But what do you call a fool at nearly 70? shocked

Atiku threatened violence with his own mouth, then his supporters threatened to make Boko Haram look like childs play. Over and over, both Atiku and the demons around him have promised the country rivers of blood, so what is the foolish old talking about now? His very own words and actions have implicated him.

May the blood of the innocent continue to haunt and trouble Atiku, let him continue confessing with his own mouth like a mad man.

Atiku has gathered birds of a feather around himself. The fools and cretins that support (including here on NL) him are no better, they are all a set of fcked up demons:

THE battle for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) presidential ticket assumed a dangerous dimension on Thursday over a statement credited to former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in which he alluded to violent take-over of government.

The statement by the former vice-president has generated hot reactions, further widening the gulf between the camps of President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhaji Abubakar.

However, in one of the reactions to Abubakar’s statement, some of his supporters from the North have declared that the office of the president of the country is North’s sole right and have threatened to unleash mayhem of unimaginable proportions on the country, if Abubakar does not get the presidential ticket of the PDP.

Acting under the aegis of Coalition of Atiku Northern Supporters (CANSU), the Abubakar supporters said the crisis that would envelop the nation should Abubakar not get the ticket would be greater in proportion to the series of Boko Haram massacres that had engulfed the country.

CANSU, in a release signed on Thursday by its President, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim and the Secretary-General, Dr Yakubu Ahmed, stated that it came to the conclusion because “Nigerians do not want a peaceful change.”

“We wish to state that we support the position of our mentor, Turaki Abubakar, that what Nigeria needs is not a peaceful change.
“This is no threat. Boko Haram will be a child’s play compared with the action our members can take. We have been patient enough. And enough, they say, is enough.

“The presidency is our right. The fact that we bowed to pressure to allow a southerner, Chief Obasanjo, who has now turned to be a betrayer and a disgrace to us, to become president in 1999 does not mean we do not know what to do to reclaim our right.

“We are happy that Turaki has now seen reason with us that what Nigeria needs is violent change and not a peaceful one,” CANSU said in the release.

“Some individuals, especially former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whom we gave our massive support because of our mentor and patron (Abubakar), do not want to respect the wish of the North for zoning and give Turaki Abubakar the PDP ticket.

“We wish to state unequivocally, without any ambiguity, that we, the Atiku supporters, are prepared for any eventuality should our patron be refused the ticket he has worked for.

“Our position remains: ATIKU PRESIDENCY ZA MU ISO WAJE KO WACE IRIN HALI (We will get there by whatever means).”

The group, therefore, warned Nigerians to prepare for the consequences of Alhaji Abubakar not clinching the PDP presidential ticket, saying “may Allah, the Almighty not CANSU (cancel) Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, the controversial zoning debate appears to have taken a new twist, as repentant militants of the Niger Delta have warned that the nation’s disintegration is imminent.

The ex-creek combatants, besides the warning, alerted that the nation “would be surprised” if their acceptance of the amnesty offer by the late president, Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, was taken for a ride.

The repentant warlords, under the auspices of the Ex-MEND Commanders Forum, were reacting to a statement credited to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, and former Vice-President Abubakar, in which they warned that “if Jonathan makes peaceful transition impossible, he should be prepared for the inevitability of a violent change.”

Babangida and Abubakar spoke in Abuja on Wednesday at the National Stakeholders’ Conference organised by the Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF).

But the ex-MEND commanders, in a statement signed by High Chief Bibopre Ajube (aka Shoot at Sight), ‘General’ Ezekiel Akpasibewei (ex-leader of the Niger Delta underdogs) and ‘Commader’ Micah Kpenfi (aka Ota 1), described the position of the northerners as “a call for coup,” hence treasonable.

The statement said “while we hold firm the belief that the freedom of expression, as enunciated in the constitution, allows individuals to express their opinion on given issues, we view, in every aspect of their intents, the statement made by the two leaders who have served the nation in various capacities as very dangerous for the survival of this nation.”

Efforts to reach the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of MEND, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), were not successful.

But his media aide, Paul Bebenimibo, who told the Nigerian Tribune that the ex-militant was in a “crucial meeting,” described the position of the two presidential aspirants as “most dangerous.”

In another development, President Jonathan has vowed to deal with any politician or political groups who threaten the sovereignty of Nigeria, saying that the government will not condone the culture of careless utterances capable of causing troubles in the country.

Apparently reacting to the statements credited to General Babangida and former Vice-President Abubakar, on Wednesday, Jonathan declared: “we will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride.”

Speaking during the decoration of newly promoted naval officers at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, in Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday, Jonathan warned that he would not allow a situation where the improving image of Nigeria in the international community would be dragged through the mud.

“I frown on people, especially politicians, who make statements challenging the sovereignty of this nation. Government will not take this lightly. We will no longer allow that kind of culture. We will not allow anybody to take this country for a ride,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria’s rating in the international community should not be sabotaged at this time, when the nation was consolidating its leadership role in the African continent and the globe, adding that it was the military and the police that bore the brunt in a crisis.

However, Atiku has rejected allegations of escalating tension over his widely reported comment on the consequences of resisting change.

In a statement in Abuja, by his campaign organi-sation, the former vice-president said his comment at a stakeholders’ conference in Abuja, on Wednesday, was borne out of historical reality, when the late United States president, John F. Kennedy, warned against the consequences of making peaceful change impossible.

He said the statement should be taken in its historical context, in terms of bitter experiences injustice had caused around the world.

The presidential aspirant said he and his supporters would not be intimidated or deterred in the commitment to ensure that the PDP abided by its zoning arrangement, in line with its amended constitution.

Atiku said accusing him of causing tension was like putting the saddle on the wrong horse, adding that no Nigerian leader, in recent memory, had caused so much bitterness, division, suspicions and animosity among Nigerians like President Jonathan had done because of his ambition to run in 2011.

He wondered how a president that tore the PDP apart and caused so much bitterness within his own party because of his alleged ill-advised ambition could turn round and accuse anyone else of causing tension.

Meanwhile, the Imo State House of Assembly, on Thursday, passed a resolution rejecting the candidature of Abubakar for the upcoming presidential primaries of the PDP.

The all PDP-member state legislature also warned Igbo governors and other sons and daughters against accepting the vice presidential slot being dangled before them by the former vice-president.

In the motion sponsored by Chief Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba of Oru West State constituency and Chief Bede Eke of Ngor Okpala state constituency, the House also resolved to reaffirm its support for President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate of the PDP in 2011.

SSS warns on reckless comments
The department of State Security Service (SSS) has warned presidential aspirants against making reckless and inflammatory statements in their quest to win elections.

In a statement in Abuja, on Thursday, the SSS regretted that certain comments by some presidential aspirants had gone beyond politics and freedom of speech, as they bothered on security of the country.

Apparently referring to comments credited to General Babangida and former Vice-President Abubakar at a stakeholders conference, on Wednesday, the SSS lamented that such comments posed grave national security problem.

The statement, signed by the Assistant Director, Public Relations of the Service, Mrs Marilyn Ogar, said “for sometime now, the SSS has noted with grave concern the unguarded, reckless and divisive utterances of some prominent politicians.

“The Service has also noted that these utterances, apart from being very inflammatory and extremely inciting, are of deep and grave national security concern.

“We are, again, reminded that democracy is about dialogue, negotiation and compromise. However, a situation where some of those aspiring to rule this nation have resorted, through their utterances, to make the country ungovernable, or calling for a violent change, is very despicable and unacceptable to this service. This, to this service, is beyond politics.”

Im still on my words ATIKU CAN NEVER AND WILL NEVER A BETTER OPTION for presidency.Just flash your mind back from the days of Obasanjo's second term ambition. Why is he so power concious? Is is not possible for a man to impact his country positively without being the president?
Hes been their for 8 years with no meaningful impact, jumping from one party to the other.
Saying all sort of trash instead of giving suggestions on way forward.People like him cant do anything better.I dont believe in people like him,hes only good in criticizing just like Late Gani.

The invitation of the FBI is a huge risk that could come back to bite Nigeria. Surely there are equally proficient and capable agencies that could handle this situation if the Pres isn't confident in the SSS, I would even prefere an Independent contractor that would have no stake in the country's stability but would rather be persuaded to carry out their task in the most professional manner that would encourage the ccountry to further employ them.

Atiku should shut his deep and dirty hole of a mouth. He is the most desperate and despicable politician. The only man I know who today has a wife from each major tribe and still believe that smearing his opponents rather than projecting his own agenda to best the rest . He is sad and dejectable and I know that he is sshivering wherever he is now that he knows Ciroma is shifting the 'northern support' to Buhari.

Is Atiku and GEJ the best candidate PDP/Nigeria  can present? This is shameful, both of them are birds of a feather!

Atiku was specifically chosen because he is a dirty fighter. They knew exactly what they were doing.

God is set to expose and disgrace the troublemakers in our country. There shall be no peace for the wicked.

Lagosboy:

I would prefer Buhari as president of Nigeria but have you read the leaked election strategy of GEJ you would realise why Atiku keeps attacking him.

That so-called leak was a shamelessly obvious clone. The only thing the document served was to show me that Saharareporters is being sponsored to attack GEJ.
Anyone with University education that reads that PDF file and cannot see that it's a forgery should return his certificate ASAP.

Lagosboy:

Don't be silly. Bombings started even in Yar'Adua's tenure, and it has been shown that the bombings from MEND were from years of neglect of the Niger Delta region by successive regimes of Northerners.
Up until now, none of you has been able to explain how seeking the help of FBI experts will compromise Nigeria's security. The Russian government had to seek british help to lift the sunken Kursk nuclear submarine, why is it now 'haram' for GEJ to ask for experts help?
You people need to get off GEJ's nuts. If he uses the inferior Nigerian technical know-how, you criticize him for lack of progress. Now when he engages the help of the best in the business, you still criticize. What do you really want?

Everyone spies on Nigeria, just as Nigeria should have her own intelligence services gathering data in foreign countries. You're here worrying about the FBI, CIA and Mossad while as we speak agents of Al Qaeda are creeping across our borders, inciting the youths, selling bin laden videos and preaching their hate-filled sermons in your mosques. Abeg let us talk of progress instead of trying to sell this northern muslim agenda here.

You are probably the one who needs to return his certificate, if you have one at all!

How many bombings occured in UMYA's 2+ years tenure compared to GEJ's 10 months of relapse? How many innocent citizens died when UMYA was president? I normally would not make such an issue out of these, but it seems in your blind support for GEJ you can't even remember the most recent history of 9ja.

If the only solution a sitting president can proffer to the highest level of insecurity we've ever witnessed in the history of the Nation is for him to solicit prayers from Christians in expectation that the culprits of these evil acts will come out publicly to confess, such a president surely does not have any business in the sit of power. He should be in the creeks on a fishing boat, catching fishes to feed his family.
