Can An Igbo Man Marry A Yoruba Woman? by Ialwaysask: 3:06am On Jan 05, 2011
I wonder, because I know Igbos are very particular about their culture and heritage.

What is it that they have against Yorubas when it comes to matrimony?

What wrong with a man marrying who he wants to marry?  If that what he wants then why are we tripping?

Can an African marry an Indian?
Can a Chinese marry a Russian?
Can a Jew marry a Muslim?

I mean marry whoever you want to marry and if it TRUE LOVE, Happy Memories!

i ask because it is something my friend brought to my attention,
an Igbo guy was dating a Yoruba girl but his family were against them marrying.
This would not be the first time I have heard of such. Tribalism is very real

Why?
Re: Can An Igbo Man Marry A Yoruba Woman? by CrazyMan(m): 3:56am On Jan 09, 2011
@Topic
Of course, an Igbo man can marry a yoruba woman.

Afterall, we're all Nigerians so its ok to marry a girl you love regardless of her tribe.

Of course in theory! But what I mean is the family accepting, they always seem to be against it
and I have heard this in several instances. Why

My dear, families that reject a girl simply because she isn’t from their tribe are mostly families where illiteracy level is very high.

Because no educated man that had the opportunity of moving round the country and mixing up with people of different tribes and race would discourage his son from marrying a girl simply because she’s not from his tribe.

People that do that are chronic villagers; people that hardly leave their village; they are the ones that try to influence their children’s choice of marriage.

So if your guy in question falls under the category of those that are being influenced by his parents, then tell him to make a decesion and stand by it. at least he's matured enough.
