Joshua Names Seven Fighters He Wants To Face Before Retirement

Anthony Joshua has named seven fighters he could face before he hangs up his gloves.
The heavyweight world champion is due to defend his three belts against Kubrat Pulev this summer.

Originally slated for June 20, the clash has been delayed due to the coronavirus crisis which has ground sport to a halt.

But assuming he retains his titles, Joshua will then set his sights on a plethora of rivals.

When asked who he could face, he told Sky Sports: “[Oleksandr] Usyk, [Deontay] Wilder, [Tyson] Fury, [Luis] Ortiz.

“Who else? I think that’s probably the majority. Adam Kownacki, Jarrell Miller… you know, that’s six names.”

Joshua went on to add Dillian Whyte to the mix having beaten his domestic foe in 2015.

“I know he’s been chasing a world title shot. I offered him a world title shot last year in April, he refused it.

“Maybe he wants his hand on the WBC, but if me and Tyson Fury fight, then I know he didn’t want to fight me last year, but he’ll definitely have to fight me this time, if he wants his hands on the WBC belt.

“Once I’ve beaten Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte can come and get this work as well. It won’t be that good, it will be one-sided.”

Joshua and Fury had hoped to clash at the end of the year but the pandemic looks to have put paid to that prospect.

Fury must first defend his own world title against Wilder in their trilogy clash pencilled in for October 3.

That would push back a potential undisputed fight until February.

1. Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Usyk (/ˈʊsik/; OO-seek; Ukrainian: Олекса́ндр Олекса́ндрович У́сик; born 17 January 1987)

Is a Ukrainian professional boxer. He reigned as the undisputed cruiserweight champion from July 2018 until he vacated his titles in March 2019, being the first cruiserweight in history to hold all four major world championships—the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and WBO titles.

As an amateur, Usyk won gold medals at the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Olympics, both in the heavyweight division. He turned professional in 2013 and won the undisputed cruiserweight championship in his 15th professional fight in 2018. Three of his titles were won during the inaugural World Boxing Super Series, in which he won the Muhammad Ali Trophy, as well as The Ring magazine and lineal cruiserweight titles. For his achievements, Usyk was named the 2018 Fighter of the Year by Sports Illustrated, ESPN, The Ring, and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

Usyk is the most recent male boxer to simultaneously hold the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO titles since Terence Crawford in 2017, and only the fifth boxer in history to do so after Crawford, Jermain Taylor, Bernard Hopkins, and Cecilia Brækhus. He is the first Ukrainian undisputed champion. He is particularly notable for the speed of his accomplishments, winning his first world title in his tenth fight, and becoming the undefeated champion of his weight class by his fifteenth fight. Usyk vacated his cruiserweight titles in 2019 to move up to heavyweight. By that point, in sixteen fights he had defeated five current or former world champions.

As of December 2019, Usyk is ranked as the world's fifth best active boxer, pound for pound, by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board[5] and The Ring,[6] and sixth by ESPN,[7] as well as the world's third best active heavyweight by

2. Deontay Leshun Wilder (/ˈwaɪldɜːr/; born October 22, 1985) is an American professional boxer. He held the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020, and in doing so became the first American world heavyweight champion in nine years, which was the longest period of time in boxing history without an American heavyweight champion. As of February 2020, he is ranked as the world's third-best active heavyweight by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board,[2] fourth by The Ring magazine,[3] and fifth by BoxRec.

Wilder had a late start to boxing, taking up the sport at 20 years of age. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 2008 Olympics. This led to his nickname of "The Bronze Bomber", which Wilder coined after Joe Louis, who was known by the nickname of "The Brown Bomber".

Wilder is particularly known for his formidable punching power, having knocked out every opponent he has faced, except Tyson Fury. His knockout-to-win ratio stands at 98%, with 20 knockouts in the first round. He is a two-time winner of the Premier Boxing Champions Knockout of the Year award, in 2016 and 2017, and the winner of the Ring magazine Knockout of the Year award in 2019.

Add me to the list. I said I should be added to the list. I want to fight Anthony Joshua. Lol.

While I pray this lockdown is not extended anymore although it may be necessary against the spread, I can't continue like this even for 1 more week. I need to get out there and face economic reality (hustle) than dying of hunger here in the house. Neither Buhari, Sanwo Olu nor anybody is feeding me. I need to go out and find my daily bread. For the time being, God bless every hand that drops any amount in the account below solely for the purpose of feeding this period. It has not been easy if not for God.

3. Tyson Luke Fury (born 12 August 1988) is a British professional boxer who is a two-time heavyweight world champion. He has held the WBC, The Ring magazine, and lineal titles since defeating Deontay Wilder in February 2020; previously he held the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, The Ring, and lineal titles after defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. With his defeat of Wilder, Fury became the third heavyweight, after Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali, to hold The Ring magazine title twice, and the first heavyweight in history to have held the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring magazine titles. As of April 2020, Fury is ranked as the world's best active heavyweight by ESPN,[2] the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board,[3] and BoxRec,[4] as well as the second-best active boxer, pound for pound, by BoxRec,[5] sixth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board,[6] and seventh by ESPN.

As an amateur, Fury represented both England and Ireland, as he was born in Manchester to an Irish Traveller family and traced his family lineage to relatives in Belfast and Galway.[8] He won the ABA super-heavyweight title in 2008 before turning professional later that year at 20 years of age. After winning the English heavyweight title twice, he became the British and Commonwealth champion in 2011 by defeating the 14–0 Dereck Chisora. He then won the Irish and WBO Inter-Continental titles, before defeating Chisora again in a 2014 rematch for the European and WBO International heavyweight titles. This success, along with his 24–0 record, set up a match with the long-reigning world champion Klitschko in Germany, which Fury won by unanimous decision.

Fury was stripped of his IBF title 10 days after the Klitschko bout as he was unable to grant a fight with the IBF's mandatory challenger, Vyacheslav Glazkov, due to a rematch clause in his contract with Klitschko. The rematch did not materialise as Fury suffered from mental health issues leading to alcoholism, recreational drug use and extreme weight gain. He was charged with anti-doping violations. In 2016, he vacated the WBA, WBO, and IBO titles; The Ring stripped him of his last remaining title in early 2018. Later that year, after more than two years of inactivity, Fury challenged for the WBC heavyweight title against Wilder. The fight was controversially scored as a draw, with many believing Fury won.[9][10][11][12] Fury's strong performance against Wilder (including recovering from a heavy knockdown in the final round) earned him Comeback of the Year from The Ring and numerous other awards.

As an amateur, he won a silver medal at the 2005 Boxing World Cup. Nicknamed "King Kong", Ortiz is known for his formidable punching power and counterpunching skills. As of December 2019, he is ranked as the world's fifth best active heavyweight by The Ring magazine, sixth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and ninth by BoxRec.

Kownacki was born in Łomża, Poland. He moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1996, along with his parents and brothers. He was 7 years old at the time. He has stated that he grew up watching Andrew Golota fights, which got him interested in boxing. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn in 2007.

Amateur:
Kownacki started training at Gleason's Gym at the age of 16. He first won the New York Golden Gloves heavyweight tournament at the age of 17. He then went on to be the runner up in 2007 and 2008, then won the tournament for the second time in 2009.

Kownacki made his professional debut on 30 October 2009, at the PAL Gym in New York, United States, where he knocked out Carossee Auponte in the first round. His first fight of 2010 was against Tyyab Beale, which he won by knockout in the second round. He went on to fight twice more in 2010, knocking out Yohan Banks and Damon Clement. He fought once in 2013, beating Calbert Lewis by knockout in the second round. Kownacki next fought on 29 March 2014, against Excell Holmes, who he knocked out in the second round. Kownacki went on to get knockout wins against Charles Ellis and Jamal Woods to finish off the year.

His first fight of 2015 was against Randy Easton, who he knocked out in the first round. His next fight took place on 29 May, where he beat Ytalo Perea by unanimous decision over 8 rounds, the first time he had gone the distance in his professional career. His next fight was against Maurenzo Smith on 1 August, at the Barclays Center, New York. He knocked Maurenzo out in the second round. His last fight of 2015 was a unanimous decision win over Rodney Hernandez. Kownacki fought twice in 2016, with a unanimous decision over Danny Kelly and a knockout win against Jesse Barboza.

He then went on to face Joshua Tufte on 14 January 2017, who he knocked out in the second round. On 15 July 2017 at the Nassau Coliseum in New York, he faced former world title challenger Artur Szpilka. Szpilka represented Kownacki's toughest opponent to date. He knocked out Szpilka in the 4th round.[1]

Kownacki's first fight of 2018 was against Iago Kiladze, at the Barclays Center, New York, on the undercard of Errol Spence vs Lamont Peterson. He won the fight by knockout in the sixth round. On 8 September 2018 he faced former IBF heavyweight world champion Charles Martin. After a close ten round fight, Kownacki won by unanimous decision with all judges scoring the bout 96–94 in favor of Kownacki. The bout was a part of the undercard for Danny García vs Shawn Porter at the Barclays Center, New York.

On 26 January 2019 Kownacki faced Gerald Washington. Kownacki knocked out Washington at the beginning of 2nd round. In his second bout of 2019, on 3 August at the Barclays Center, New York, Kownacki defeated Chris Arreola by unanimous decision (118-100, 117–111, 117-111), winning the IBF Inter-Continental heavyweight title.[2] The fight broke the CompuBox record for the most combined punches thrown (2,172) and landed (667) in a heavyweight fight.[3]

On 7 March 2020, Kownacki faced Robert Helenius in a WBA title eliminator. While Kownacki was the heavy favorite, Helenius pulled off a significant upset by stopping Kownacki in the fourth round, handing him his first professional loss. The victory lined up Helenius as the mandatory challenger for titlist Anthony Joshua.

Apart from Wilder and Fury, he can beat others. But he should work on beating fury and wait for a big money fight from others who want to claim the belts. No need to fight losers. He should pick his fights carefully.

Nice profile there Joshua.
But you really have to work harder on your punches.

I saw your last two fights against Ruiz and I must say you aren't a finished product yet.
