So what is being done to those that earn a living from non-essential businesses that categorize non essential movements ?...

How would the Govt earn its tax to keep paying salaries when only "essential businesses" eg shops and food productions are the only ones operating?..

They will survive and government will survive. But if people start dying like chickens, the country will go back to lock down and by then it will be too late.

The lockdown has failed, and these are just the reported cases, the true figures will be truly shocking. Hopefully the purported hot weather that is claimed to be protective against this virus comes in handy because the Nigerian Government did not use this lockdown to equip the dying hospitals, did not build emergency hospitals and have not provided palliative measures for its citizens. God help Nigerians.

On what basis are you suggesting that lockdown has failed? What if without the lockdown we record 10,000 cases in a day?

Lockdown will not completely zero out rates of infections, it'll only reduce it, because people still interact even on a reduced level.

The death rate or 58 out of 1932 is higher than even the US rate... The infection rate of 1900 our of 12000 samples is higher than elsewhere.

This is crazier than imagine

We are not doing enough testing. If we do 1 million tests, we may as well have over 100,000 cases.

So 58 deaths for over 100,000 cases is quite small.

Also how many confirmed cases lead to death? How many are discharged everyday compared to deaths? These are all what matter... smiley

Calm down, what you wrote didn't fit in

I said 'rate' where both factors are determine by the country's figure. Its 58 in 1900+ not 100,000. Ghana has over 2k confirmed cases with 17 deaths.. A whole lot better than Nigeria.. Recovery rate, mortality rate are crazy in Nigeria using Nigeria's figures. Its worse than anywhere else. Remember the US is @60k+ death in abt a million cases. that's still a lot better than Nigeria.

Remember Lagos is already overwhelmed, which means if the numbers where 10k+ infection, all controls would have been lost.

Sometimes people don't understand what they are trying to claim.

Don't be surprised that if Lagos State especially, reveal the state of origin of some of the infected persons, you would be shocked by the region who would have the highest number in terms of state of origin of the infected patient.

So let us not start bringing Tribal sentiment to this as some have already started.

I'm from the South South where atleast one state is not yet infected presently, but I see this fight as a collective effort for all Nigerians.

God bless Nigeria!!!

SE doesn't have more than a single testing laboratory that is in Ebonyi.. Kano has 2, lagos has 7, chances are SE are not even carrying out any test as we speak... again SE doesn't have a functional International Airport, Kano and Lagos both has two of the busiest in the country, so they are prone to foreigners bringing in the virus directly, while SE bound travelers get quarantines in Lagos or Portharcourt

This is not an encouraging news when you consider the total number of people that have been discharge. I feel it's likely that
The govt is not being sincere
The medical practitioners voice have not been taken with full hearing of the daily risk they face.
Sensitization programs is not fully effective as it ought to be.

These should come into the agenda of every stakeholder

How more test can be done effectively

How to encourage the medical practs on the daily risk they get involve in

Food security in the country

Talking and coming to reasonable conclusion in every presidential task force briefing.

We all need to be a lot more thinking and working in the right direction.

The other World leathers used the lockdown to equip their hospitals with ventilators/Protective Personal Equipments/medical staff, they built emergency hospitals with 2000-4000 bed capacities and provided palliatives for their citizens.

Nigerian Demonic leaders used this crisis to go on a LOAN shopping spree and received cash from the UN/IMF/EU/WHO and kind Nigerians, they shared the loot, stockpiled their mansions with foods to last a year and have isolated themselves. If you are waiting for peak, then you will be on lockdown till July.

What did other countries do during their lockdown?
Expand testing massively, contact tracing, strengthen their health systems, and isolate infected ones.

In Nigeria, we did lockdown for 5 weeks and so far only managed a paltry 10,000+ tests in a population of 200m. That was a very unproductive lockdown. You can't identify a reasonable percentage of the infected individuals that way, and cases will only continue to rise anyhow.

If the government is not going to do massive testing, identify and isolate most infected people, then a lockdown is just a waste of time because asymptomatic people will keep spreading the disease unknowingly, and the poor masses will suffer greatly from it especially since there wasn't even any reasonable palliatives distributed to people to ease the effects of the lockdown.
U said my mind. Lockdown without aggressive testing is waste of time. It means we will be on lockdown forever.

I think we're still safer if we put more adequate measure in terms of the lock down. Countries like US and Italy within two to three months of the first infected case had started recording hundreds or even thousands of deaths within same three months period Nigeria is presently having.

Numbers of deaths is not subject to only tested cases or confirmed ones, because you don't need to be tested before you die of the virus.
Deaths related to the virus cannot be hidden, ones you get infected you suffer for it if not having strong immune system.
Hence if death rates not only about the confirmed or unconfirmed cases but as far as one get infected, then by your assertion the deaths rate in Lagos would be scary by now after almost there months of the first case.

Yes the numbers of deaths would increase due to already infected cases but if the lock down is properly control the rate as relate the time range for first time infection would not be as high as US or Italy.

I still support controlled Lock Down.

Nigeria would prevail.

God bless Nigeria!!!

I agree with you on most points, but to say the virus is not for Africa is what I cannot agree with you. Most people said initially that the weather is the reasons is not in Africa but presently the virus is much here with us.

Even though the govt was not fast as some expected in closing of the borders. I think this helped and couple with the lock down too.

The lock down especially didn't eliminate the virus, but I am convinced it actually mitigate the spread especially where the Lock Down was truly adhere to.

Yes the govt and our health system is not yet the best, but we have to appreciate for the fair success so far.

God bless Nigeria!!!

It's so sad.

The governors are the worse, they've zero excuses. Look at Ben Ayade, doing fashion parade with his matching face masks.

Lagos with years of insane IGR, south south with 13% derivation and other income from oil companies and higher revenue allocation than most states combined...still no decent hospitals.

Ganduje is asking for 15 billion, when he must be making that much in IGR annually if not quarterly. Instead of hospitals and schools they were busy building roads and streetlights.

Zamfara bought expensive cars for political appointees, yet they couldn't fund the war on bandits or upgrade their school systems or hospitals.

None of the former presidents and former governors and former ministers are running charities and schemes from their massive loot to help out.

Dangote's kano is burning, he's waiting for Bill Gates and his banker friends, the donation from the Dangote Group came from other philanthropists, yet the man's the richest motherfugger in Africa. Shouldn't Jack Ma be an example for these people?

Linda Ikeji? Nothing.

Our yeyebrities? Burna Boy was so tone-deaf he was showing off his cars and house, the same Burna Kanye called pledging to help out Nigeria.

Atiku gave peanuts, nothing from the Dantatas and the Yaraduas and the Borno oil dynasty...same for TY Danjuma.

Leaders across the public and private sector have failed in the hour of need.
