heading for a recession or already in a recession

Since april, we have been struggling to get forwx from the varuous windows( i.e, SME Wholesale, SME Retail, SME Form Q, including LC). It's been stories upon stories. I wonder why they granted is that our request for loan waiver and debt relief sef. We don't deserve it as a country because our govt isn't sincere. This week, the immigration stopped some medics from leaving the country over a flimsy excuses yet, they refused to pay their full benefits. The last time I checked, lagos governmemt sacked frontline workers ( this week) when the number needed wasn't even adequate to take care of sick and helpless Nigerians.

Nigerians should just prepare for anything in coming days.

In this COVID 19 era, no country witnesses economic growth. Even US is not finding it easy.

But, I know ipob miscreants must scream Buharis's name as has been the case since 5 yrs ago.

If it is economic boom that is expected, trust them. Same miscreants will attribute it to something else. That is the macabre dance they have demonstrated in the case of Nigerian Stock Market.
hypocrisy will not kill you if u believe that is only ipob that complain about Buhari and his looting government.

Has the country been doing well before COVID19? Ever since Buhari assumed power, it's been from one recession to another. COVID or no COVID we for still enter recession.

There is no end to you lots stoopidity is there? How many of those other countries are slipping into recession because of the pandemic? Always quick to call USA to fit your warped narrative.

You should have done so earlier, I don't think they will allow the dollar to slide above 500 naira. But nonetheless, u go make money, but things will still be expensive. This because we are a consumer nation. We input everything, so when naira gets devalued, price of stuff gets higher. This is really bad for people who earn fixed income like salary earners and government workers
Ok I get your point now, I missed the earlier signal of corona virus effect on nigeria economy.
Best choice is to just stick with my nairas for now.

I think dollar speculators might lose money if the CBN unifies it's multiple exchange rates since there will be no more parallel/black market rate.

The unified exchange rate will most likely be lower than the current black market rate..

Or what do you think.

Nigeria never left the previous recession

Honestly, I don't quite get what these people mean by talking about entering another recession. When exactly has Nigeria not been in recession since 2015??!... When last did this economy actually grow??!

Madam zainab, you are the one leading Nigeria to recession

Is this a minister? This one is like channel TV economic reporter. Have you ever heard anything about economic focus of the administration? All her budgets are based on borrowing. Even Kemi with her deficiencies was better.

Seriously waiting for naira to crash so badly cool
I mean really really bad, like bad bad bad...

It might look bad for you little minds but will do the country a great favour in the long run.
Buy that raw material locally, buy that end product locally, else pay so much for it...
Greater Nigeria will only come with a very realistic naira and nor some CBN backed, artificial naira.
As for the masses aka poor people,we go hear am sha grin grin grin

Anyone who graduated within 2015 till date has lost potential career growth and earnings. Damn! embarassed My pain with this is the lack of concerted efforts to diversify the economy stimulating growth through production (constant electricity is required) and reduction of bureaucracies in the system. Meanwhile, men should undergo vasectomy while women hysterectomy. Now isn't a good time to give birth.

Xlyad:
recession does not necessarily lead to currency devaluation. Other factors have to be considered.

Nigeria earns more than 70% of foreign revenue via sale of crude oil whose price won't climb to $100 per barrel anytime soon. Besides, the naira has never appreciated against the dollar in its entire history. Unless the country's economy is highly diversified beyond collecting oil royalties, the currency will continue to lose value. It's only a matter of time. However, there exist two ways to hedge against it:

- Earn in dollars while being in Nigeria

- Convert bulk naira earnings to dollars immediately. Never save in naira.

Then purchasing dollar at the current black market rate @#450-460 is not gonna be a bad investment since nigeria recession equates further naira devaluation??
Any economist in the house should help me out here on this subject.

You are right, in fact.... I'm earnestly waiting for dollar to hit #500/$1 by December or even before... That's surely will happen. All economic indices points to this. I envy those who earn in foreign currency coz their naira value will keep appreciating.
