I believe people that against travelling abroad are those that have not travel out of the shore of this country before
yes, you can make your money here in Nigeria, but which way the crook or legitimate way.
even though you have the money, where is the comfort,is it the sound of ur generator, traffic on your way home, police brutality, insecurity, kidnapping to mention but few that will make you to enjoy the money
let me tell you categorically there is nothing to enjoying in Nigeria.
do u know that in Europe (germany) fresh graduate do not contest an election because his salary as worker in company is more than him going for one yeye political post.
An MD of a company in germany is richer that a governor of a state but in Nigeria the reverse is the case.
Nigeria is not a country to proud of because day in day out you read in the newspaper about billions of naira realised from crude oil but nothing to show for it.

Why Does Everybody In Nigeria Want To Travel Out?

This is a very insultive question, unless the poster does not understand the word "everybody"

Nigerians by nature are very inquisitive and have free spirit. They like moving around, that is why within the geopolitical territory of Nigeria, every tribes mingle even before the coming of the Europeans.

Nigeria from time immemorial possess a spirit that is very restless, a spirit that is given flight when they find themselves in unfriendly environment. That is why in Nigeria today, yorubas, populate some cities in the east while the igbos are moving in the other direction to the west and the north. The hausas are everywhere in Nigeria. This is applicable to all tribes in the country.

Inspite this nature, not everybody want to live their want to live their native land. I know may people who refuses to move to Lagos to stay and would rather come to transact business in Lagos and go back to their native land.

This is also what plays out in the diaspora, at the international level. Just like many would prefer and do anything to travel out of the country to work and live, many others actually prefer to travel out for holidays, for business, for studies and for a short stay and then head back home.

There are others who have had the opportunity of living in Europe but prefers to stay back in the country. Nigerians as a people faces many challenges that will ordinarily prompt them to want to ship out but I tell you if Nigeria is as developed as USA many Nigerians would still have preferred to live in other countries.

Nigeria is not as bad as we paint it and it saddens me if we are the people putting down our country. Just like the igbos are moving enmass to other parts of the country to work, trade and live; and other Nigerians are heading to the east to work, trade and live. Many expatriates are working and living in Nigeria, taking up citizenship. They are seeing opportunities in the country that we have all written off and they wonder everyday while we run out of the country.

Labadidi, the chairman of Starcomms and Crown Feeds have lived all his life in Nigera, all his children are born in Nigeria, they all travelled to the US to study and came back to Nigeria to live and work.

Harry Akande has lived most of his life in the US, he has his businesses entirely in the US, all his children lives in the US. He comes home only to participate in politics, he recently decamped to the PDP from ANPP. Is that the democratic tendency he inculcated all his years in US.

The point is most of us living outside Nigeria have lost reality with the country, the environment we live in abroad has blinded us to the opportunities that the expatriates are tapping into and making billions.

Many of us are billionaires in assets in Europe, US, Asia and elsewhere, we are experts in various professions, we are technocrats in various fields, we are scientists, etc but we all still failed to see the good in our country, we are blind to opportunities waiting for us which expatriates are harvesting daily. They live like kings here and many go extra mile to renew their papers. Some are even staying without papers.

Dont tell me they are the ones that can not get jobs in their countries or those that are not well qualified to be reckoned with. The fact is if you are very comfortable where you were, Nigeria or US you would not ship permanently outside.

Many of us living outside Nigeria are in the worse living condition than many living in Nigeria but we will not see it because many of us see good roads, ever stable power supply, and other amenities as the only living condition. Our personal lives in terms of accomplishment are far below what many who stayed back in Nigeria have achieved.

All in all, travelling out or staying put, is a personal decision and not everybody want to travel out. There is more to live than most of us know.

What is there to stay in 9ja for? Is it because the  useless govt can provide it's citizens with basic ammenities which are your right in the first place? Can the govt grant you safety and security? The whole  system is bleeped up, nothing seems right, nothing works, it's a hell hole. Even if you manage to make it, you can have rest of mind, because of fear of being kidnapped or robbed. So if one has the opportunity why wouldn't you go live the good life.

I like the way the frustrated ones think every Nigerian overseas is doing dirty jobs or committing crime. They look for ways to console or justify their failures and frustrations in our fatherland. grin

Hopefully in future, when finks get better in 9ja,i might relocate back home But for now, mbAAAAAA.
1000% of nigerian politicians lack forsight, maybe they all theifs;i'm afraid d atmosphere in 9ja says it all,not a safe heaven.

At OP, it is not right to put everybody in same basket.
Ur post has hited a point, if not that u Generalised it.

Nigeria is our fathers land but that doesn't means we should leave if we are opportuned.
The country dey currupt everyday nothing is done to change this.
The worse is the security, and safety, why are our leaders always fly abroad for treatment when they are sick??
If they make this better here will they run out for better treatment?
I beg I advice if one is willing to travel out for good let him/her go. No be by force to stay in ur country of origin.

Considering the way the government neglect the need of the people and instead squanders the resources, I wont blame anyone who decides that leaving abroad is the way out of the suffering, But the blame also goes to those Nigerians abroad who when visiting home, tend to glorify the white mans land and pretend to be leaving large as they create a false scenario that life's easy over here in the west.

like the the naija artist: Sound Sultan says: "I rather be like a lion in the Jungle (naija) than to live like a toy in the city (oyibo land)"

You don't have to be in government or steal before you can live a very comfortable life.

It amuses me why people keep blaming Government for their failures in Life!!
Re: Why Does Everybody In Nigeria Want To Travel Out? by plappville(f): 5:01pm On Feb 14, 2011
I don't thing there is any reall born Nigerian that will be doing well in the west and would not think of visiting home.
What I don't agree with is that saying because I am a Nigeria , I shouldn't think of settling down else where, any where wen favour man naim man dey put head. True there is suffuring in 9ja en like here too, but the gouvernment do give aide.
Some of these jobless here, I mean d lazy ones who pretend they didn't fine a job do ve free food stuffs every week, health insurrance 100% but in Nigerian it's the revarse, the poor getting insulted and no hope of surviving when they are sick.

A family friend (House of assembly member) came to our house not over a month ago and was narrating how kidnappers chased his wife for over 10 miles despite the armed escort she had.
this was as she was leaving church in the village! ! !

The kidnapper cars could not jump all the gallops ; thank God.

Nigerians are unique ; if the country is the deepest part of hell loads of people will still
some how prefer it.
God forbid.

They should travel out ohh, but that doesn't mean stay away. I was born outside and plan on going back for good permanently. If people see what's abroad, they'll better understand that they shouldn't be managing in Nigeria and that changes need to be implemented.

*Shakes head and re-joins the fray*You see,the reason why people in government(PIGs) dont govern well is the same reason the people of nigeria(PONs) think that leaving the country is the solution to the PIGs messing up. The reason is ignorance-induced myopia.PIGs think political office is for amassing wealth(wrong),PONs think running away is the solution(wrong).

I love Nigeria despite all challengies, problem, PHCN, unemployemnt and what have you. It is still the best Nation on the earth. If you dont like it you cant prosper in it, No fish hate the water where he dwel and prosper in it. To those who choose to travel out of their fathers land lucky them.

Three hundred years ago America, Australia, New Zealand are all woods but today they are developed nations, it is the people that build nation and not the government. That is where we missed it all. We want the government to provide everything. Which is not possible.

That doesn't imply to Nigerian situation, i will rephrase that to: Its not what your country can do, but what you can do for yourself.

I wasn't referring to the present though; JFK's philosophy is how, I think, it should be.

Lol why not? You need examples? I have two: Tunisia and Egypt. Democracy is people having power. Nigerians are powerless, not because of government but the lack of voice and courage in most Nigerians. Things seem to be changing for the better as nearly 70 million people have registered to vote.

The Army in Egypt made it work, they did not shot at sight, do you think Nigerian Army can do that?

I still believe that no government can solve people problems. It is individual responsibility to solve their problem. Henry Ford said our government cannot help us but we can help our government

A very Good and Timely thread,
Am currently studying in the UK and believe it me, People say the will pay anything to live in the Uk, I say i will pay anything in this world not to live in the UK.
Those here don"t want to come back because they are ashamed that people are going to laff at dem that having spent dat much time here there is nothin to show for it wen they get back home.
Just fine clothes and a little Pounds to last a while. Thats the main fear.
There is nothing that you'll say to a brother to make dem change their minds. So usually seeing is believing. Come av a taste
Re: Why Does Everybody In Nigeria Want To Travel Out? by vindizzle: 7:36pm On Feb 14, 2011
You folks are saying the right thing but also missing the point. We should not expect government to fix things for us but The government is responsible for making resources available to its citizens, infrastructure, basic amenities afforded to a citizen that would be instrumental in making him productive to his community. these is what is lacking and the way forward is for interest groups or a band of people who are willing to die for change in the country to come forward. Example, the situation of history in Egypt. We have a democratic government so I am not suggesting that part. We all need to stand for our rights and what we deserve as citizens to be afforded and made available by the government or else we will continue in our current disbelief. *my 2cents*
