Did my interview on the 2nd of October 2012. Prepared for my interview using this tread as part of my resources. I applied for a visiting visa and it was my first USA visa interview. I got all my documents ready, prayed, fasted and was conscious of the way I looked and how the interviewer would interpret my body language. I have travelled to Dubai(Thrice) and Ghana (severally). I am not married. The questions asked include:
1. Why I was visiting the US?
2. Where my brother works?
3. His middle name?
4. His date of birth
5. Since when he has been in the US
6. His he married
7. The school he attended in the US
8. The type of visa he entered the US with
The interviewers accent wasn't audible so I had to repeat his questions sometimes and confirm if that was what he meant and note at no point was i asked for any document. I have collected my passport and was given 2 years multiple entry. Wish you guys the best

Hi Nairalanders! I Did my interview yesterday at the US embassy, Lagos. It was a denial! But am glad I wasn't as sad as I thought. Trying doesn't kill they say. Below are the questions I was asked.

VO: Why do you want to go to the US?

ME: To honor my family friend's invitation and to spend 14 days out of my leave.

VO: What do you do for a living?

ME: I am an accountant.

VO: Have you ever traveled out of Nigeria before?

ME: Yes, I have been to United Kingdom twice and to Ghana once.

VO: Are you married?

ME: No, but I have an up coming wedding in December.

VO: What does your Fiancee do?

ME: She works.

VO: What does she do for a living?

ME: She's an accountant.

VO: I am sorry your visa isnt approved.

At no point was any of my documents checked. I was a bit disappointed but I still give God the glory since I have a 2 years valid uk visa. I will apply next year to see what they have in store for me.

Thank you all for your wonderful contributions.

she is my family frd as I said earlier known each other from childhood.she do visit nigeria every year her last visit was last december.am 27 while she is 30.nysc salary is 19800,I ve a personal acct dat is very good but I don't want to use it because of my age n since am stil under my parent.can nysc be a strong tie to nigeria because lot of foreign student come home 4 dat because wit out it no job in nigeria.another issue is dat a coperate body is d one sponsorin me which is my father estate because my dad is late.den dat I was refused was based on student visa 4 my bsc which I later did in nigeria

You can still apply and give it a shot!
Your circumstances and ties are not the very best.
NYSC earning 19800.
Since documents may not be asked, you will have to present your case brilliantly and confidently.
Does not stand a good chance, but the VO may fall for it.
All the very best!!!!

I'm gonna make this snappy!

Are you still serving?
Which organisation are you serving with?
Why do you want to go to the US?
Why is your father sponsoring your trip instead? NB: your father can't sponsor only you on a trip he's not gonna be a part of unless a business trip.

I can't be able to write all I wanted to write with my mobile now.

Good Luck!

Re: Usa Visit Visa by chinwe11: 2:00pm On Oct 12, 2012
I had my interview on the 10th. i had been previously denied and would state what happened after this post. anyway this one went thus:

VO: Why do you want to go to the United states
Me: Xmas vacation with my husband and his sister inlaw
VO: where does she stay
ME: xxxxx, NC, US
VO: when are you going/how many days are you staying
ME: december, 15 days
VO: have you travelled out of Nigeria before?
ME: yes, to India, Dubai, UK three times and Republic of Maldives
VO: what was happening in india?
ME: Medical course for 1 week
VO: have you done your specialisation in MEdicine?
Me: yes i have done a Masters degree in ..................
VO: whats your husbands name
ME: xxxxxx xxxxx
VO: does he have a visa, and did he get it in Lagos?
ME: yes
VO: (checks something on his computer)Do you have kids
Me: No i dont
VO: Have you made plans for your medical treatment in the US?
Me: I don't understand, i am just staying for 2 weeks. I dont think i would need treatment'
VO: Okay, come and collect your VISA next week.

ME: okay!!!!

Was surprised, didnt last up to three minutes. He didnt even ask for any document or where i worked. I felt it had to do with my last denial, as the VO who did my interview then in 2010 even asked me to come and apply in 6 months time or if i get married, and definitely GOD.

Good news indeed cool, this is why I like us embassy, you can have your visa approved for you irrespective of your travel history as long as your reasons are genuine, and you are able to present your case in a coherent manner.

Good day house, please i will want advise and know the chances i have @ getting the visa. My sister just lost the husband in the states and her grief therapist has asked that she need family around her for some period and she has requested that i come over, my elder sisters are all married and can't go. I work with a coy here in lagos and my pay is good, i already had my annual leave in august but a 2weeks off has been approved again so i can see my sister. So i have my introductory letter from my coy, payslips, bank statement showing my income is consistent. I ll be sponsoring my trip and my sister is sending her papers too, she is on greencard and the late husband was a citizen, they had two children. I already have an appointment for next month, please advice, thank you

Re: Usa Visit Visa by opsy4real1: 11:42am On Oct 17, 2012
Those VO's are real crazy wit their unjustifiable stringent rules. Must every applicant be married before eligible for visas?same happened to me last month i went for interview...even genuine single non immigrant applicants. Its a shame! Best wishes on reapplication if u so wish.

Lol, they also deny an aged person, it's luck, appearance and presentation.

So sad, I guess he thinks you are only using the conference of a thing to secure a visa. You might still be denied if the first person that interviewed you is superior to the next person that would interview you.

Anyways, you can still get a comfortable appointment date before then.
Re: Usa Visit Visa by jub009: 12:57pm On Oct 17, 2012
@ Fast-link well u might b rite & wrong. I do hv other means 2 secure a visa but prefer using d conference 2 hence my knowlegde in my field of occupation. Well I won't know if he's d superior or not. Booking new appointment

yeah, I no doubt the genuineness of your visa intentions but the VO must had thought otherwise, in other wards you can't afford to change the purpose of your trip in another application for obvious reason unless in a six months time.

yeah, it is possible if you still wish to apply cool

cheers!
