Obasanjo Seeks South South, South East  Collaboration

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has  stressed the need for collaboration between  governors in the South-South and South-East regions  of the country in making states in the regions hub of  economic activities. Obasanjo , who spoke weekend at a dinner  organised for him by the Akwa Ibom state  government as part of activities to mark his  participation in the flag-off campaign of Governor  Godswill Akpabio second term bid, specifically  identified Aba, Calabar and Port Harcourt as areas  that could be developed as centres of development in the regions. Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees Chairman advocated amendment in the constitution where  performing governors in the country could be transferred to other states  to boost even development; regretting constitutional barrier limiting  democratically elected governors to their states of origin. He recalled that under military dispensation,  administrators were posted to states other than those  of their origin, and wished same system could apply in  a democratic setting to create room for other  governors to bring their wealth of developmental experience to bear on  other states within the sub-regions and Nigeria as a whole. He extolled development efforts of Governor Akpabio, saying anybody  who had not landed in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, has not gone to  any place yet in the country. "Akpabio will soon turn Akwa Ibom to a paradise using the flyovers and  all forms of transportation including roads, airport, Independent Power  Plant and gas processing industry, among others. Railway will soon  come.
