SECURITY operatives have been called upon to check the alleged excesses of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) presidential candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

The Director of Research of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Goodluck/Sambo 2011, Chief Mike Omeri, who made the call in Abuja at the weekend, claimed that Buhari and his supporters have made violence their campaign tool.

He said that Buhari’s campaign team, apparently aware that they do not possess the needed democratic credentials to win the elections, opted to perpetrate violence.

[b]Omeri listed the terror unleashed on supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Nasarawa, Port-Harcourt and Gombe States by the CPC as ploys capable of truncating the ongoing democratic process.

He therefore, urged the security operatives and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to invoke the relevant sections of the law and reign in Buhari and his supporters.

Specifically, Omeri alerted the security operatives of the threat to his life by those he believed, were members of the rival CPC.

His words: “In the last five days, I have been inundated with strange phone calls and text messages threatening me not to speak or comment on anything involving General Buhari.

“One of the text messages came from phone number +2348035074163 warning: Mike you should think twice before you either write or say something on Buhari.

“I think this is not how democracy should be practiced. Violence or threat is not part of democracy. I think those who have no democratic credentials should have no business in this game.

“By now, Nigerians should know those who are the real enemies of democracy and the people. This is not the era of brute force. Nigerians must have a choice and a right to decide. This resort to violence and intimidation cannot win votes for them.”[/b]

Why can't their tactics be civil, why bomb rallies and physically attack the Nigerian President in ways that could have endangered his life?
