We are being harassed, intimidated - Ekiti PDP members cry out •They should face issues - ACN


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has raised the alarm over what it described an intimidation by the state government led by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), ahead of elections slated for next month.

But the ACN has urged the PDP to focus on issues, rather than making insinuations.

The Ekiti PDP director of communication and strategy, Mr Jackson Adebayo, who raised the alarm while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Ado Ekiti, alleged that “the state government is using the judiciary to intimidate members of the party in some parts of the state.”

According to Adebayo, “an example of the serial harassment and intimidation of PDP members in parts of the state is the recent arraignment and detention of seven members of our party for assault, breach of peace and stealing at Ilawe in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of the state.”

Adebayo said “in actual fact, ACN members attacked our members at a beer parlour in the town,” adding that “they went to court and a case of breach of the peace was instituted. But all of a sudden, we found that the case had been altered and the charge sheet now read stealing of money and bottles of beer among others.”

He called on the state ACN and the government to desist from harassing members of the PDP in the state.

Reacting, state chairman of the ACN, Chief Olajide Awe, said “the state government is on course and has no time for frivolities,” adding that “if the matter is fighting and breach of the public peace, they should face the police and not the ACN.”

He said “the PDP in Ekiti State should focus on issues rather than going about making unfounded insinuations.”
